    Pros

    There are many friendly staff at many locations

    Cons

    The whole model business model is a joke. The upper management running the whole company treat their employees terribly, putting intense pressure on loyal general managers, etc to hit impossible numbers, after bad business decisions by the executive directors run the company into the ground. Everyone is woefully underpaid, and the commission structure set up by the corporate offices has made it nearly impossible for a majority of the membership consultants to actually make any money after working full hours. All the while, there are monthly meetings with the staff from locations all across the city, and management has gimmicky awards and "motivational" videos that are supposed to trick the employees into believing that they are valued and should work harder for the company.

    Advice to Management

    Value your employees for their worth .

    Pros

    You get to utilize all the facility has to offer. You're also sometimes able to make the customers' day better!

    Cons

    People are extremely rude, the managers are lazy and are not concerned with the quality of customer service, and you do all the work while generally being paid little to nothing.

    There are Rewards for your performance based on production and overall long term growth. There is opportunity for upward mobility

    Cons

    Club level challenges are sometimes difficult to resolve but with help from management, they can be quickly dealt with accordingly.

    Great atmosphere, young staff, helpful and supportive team members, and free membership

    Cons

    Low wage. You start at minimum wage and the next wage increase is very minimal.

    Pros

    - The high turnover allows room for growth in the company.
    - If you wind up in the right club your relationship with your management team can allow some flexibility in your schedule.
    - You are able to speak directly with some of the top level management in the entire Town Sports company

    Cons

    - Overworked and underpaid positions in middle management. 9 hour schedule days, often filled with tasks that can be completed in 2 or 3 hours.
    - Absolutely ZERO autonomy as a manager, and no help from upper management on any issues. I can't tell you how many times my GM and I asked the upper management to correct issues that members complained about on a daily basis. If something did get fixed it often took at least 6 months.
    - If you don't like being micromanaged, this is not the place for you. Weekly mandatory recap meetings with redundant information.
    - Your performance as a manager was based on sales, PERIOD! And sales promotions changed on a monthly basis, as did projections. It was literally pointless to give an annual B-Plan.
    - The carrot that is used to recruit you is a CON. They bait you with talks about your monthly bonus when you hit your numbers. Great, if you are an ambitious manager like I was, you look forward to the hustle. Here's the problem, when you do hit your numbers from month to month, they increase the projections.; in order to constantly receive a bonus month over month for a year, you would literally have to double your revenue YoY. And they continue to trip the payout each year as the directors continue to increase their salaries.
    - The fact of the matter is that the reason that the directors pay themselves so much is because the stock is trash. The top two earning executives both make over $2M per year in salary, while the shareholders suffer the losses.
    - They pinned themselves in a corner by lowering their dues in order to compete with Planet Fitness, and now they can't increase them or they will lose whatever members they have left; although they did increase dues twice over two quarters without mentioning it to any members (another issue that middle management got stuck dealing with at the club level). Because they lowered their rates they don't have enough money to upkeep the gym when results in members leaving, which results in cuts and lower pay, which results in understaffed clubs, return to start...

    Advice to Management

    Speak up to the upper levels of management and demand that they fix the things that need to be fixed, otherwise the company will never change.

    Pros

    Sales driven so you learn some stuff about that. Not much else to say. Free membership? Not much to say.

    Cons

    No structure, no help from incompetent manager. No incentive and unprofessional work environment. No clear instructions on what exactly is going on! You sort of just roam around the gym during "floor hours". Pay sucks. And it's a selfish type of atmosphere that starts at the top.

    Advice to Management

    Educate yourselves.
