    Pros

    Accommodating & Reasonable scheduling
    Fair discounts

    Cons

    Last minute calls for shifts.

    Advice to Management

Regional managers needs to visit stores more often.
In addition, store managers should not purposefully destroy displays to make more work for sales associates.

Great way to work on communication skills it is also very easy to move up in the company. They are also very relaxed.

    Cons

Store is slow. The company doesn't necessarily have their employees best interest at heart. Communication is not the best between the employees and higher ups

I worked at New York & Company full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

-car service home if you stay past 9pm (which is multiple times a week if you are on the merch team)
    - lots of exposure to upper management at all levels. CEO Greg Scott is at every, single meeting

    Cons

I had heard people tell me to stay away from this place before I got there, but I didn't listen. Take my advice - if you want a life, steer clear.

    Cons
-assistants treated like animals - expected to arrive at 6am on Mondays or work Sundays from home and week nights until past 8pm every single night. You need to put a reminder on your manager's calendar if you would like to leave before 8pm
-meetings always start late and therefore they end late. If you work on the outlet or online team... forget it! You are not respected what so ever and your portion of a meeting could START at 8pm even though you attend the entire meeting with all the other merchants
-every single person at this company is miserable and you can feel the energy walking around the office
-the buy process happens monthly, or more, so there is a lot to juggle
-upper management lacks respect for one another. Everyone walks around in fear of the CEO and if something goes wrong... they devise a plan of who to point the finger to and blame so its not their own fault or problem
-CEO needs to trust his teams. There is no reason an Executive Vice President can not hold a meeting without the CEO present
-bad quality clothing and only getting worse

    Advice to Management

respect your employees! Work life balance is so important and NYCO has 0. Turnover is incredibly fast as people can not do it anymore.

I have been working at New York & Company full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The employee discount is fairly decent, 30% for associates and 40% for managers (those percentages are cut in half when there is a store wide sale). The registers are fairly up-to-date, with a touchscreen and intranet access on every one to check the online store in order to make orders for customers. The merchandise itself is very cute and modern, most of my professional and casual attire I purchased from my job.

    Cons

I believe 110% that this company does not care about its employees whatsoever. What is demanded of us is not simply difficult to achieve, it is downright impossible. Every night there are floor changes. Every morning there are sign changes, with the possibility of window/easel changes as well. We have crappy employees that show up late, or don't show up at all, that we can't afford to fire because nobody worthwhile is willing to break their backs for minimum wage. All they ask of us would be possible, if not for the fact that our payroll is nonexistent. If this gives you any idea, our stores had one-to-one coverage (meaning one person working the floor and one at the register) the entire month of December. Ever been to the mall in December while everyone is Christmas shopping? Imagine all that traffic, all those lines, and just one person behind the register. Not only did we have to deal with all that work, but also had to handle being screamed at by almost every customer, because they were UNDERSTANDABLY frustrated by either the ridiculously long wait, and/or the lack of assistance on the floor or at the fitting rooms. If that wasn't enough to make them mad, the coupons the company hands out are never valid on anything!!! I love retail, I love working with people and I take true joy in knowing that each and every customer I dealt with has had a great experience. That is what, I feel, makes all the negatives we have to deal with in the business, worth it. Working here has honestly been such a blow to my soul. My store manager works 90 hours a week, she comes in on her days off and doesn't clock in because we can't go over payroll. We don't see our families, we clock out for breaks and don't take them, we go above and beyond just to get an email from the higher ups demanding more. It's so disheartening. Oh. Did I mention the pay sucks?

    Advice to Management

I truly think our workers could benefit from having a union, as any advice to management posted here would surely fall on deaf ears. Any advice I could give would be 1. Allocate far more hours to the payroll to compensate for the workload. I mean how hard is it, really? If there's a holiday coming up, give more hours. If a store receives 49 boxes of freight that week, give more hours. Not rocket science. 2. Pay your workers more! All of them. How can a store try to recruit good talent if they are offering crap wages? 3. Enough with the constant and unnecessary sign changes/never ending floorsets. And finally, 4. If you are aware that you're asking the impossible, at least have the grace to admit it. Do not, so to speak, hand your employees a plate full of crap and then when they eat it, punish them for not licking the plate clean.

Forced overtime hours at half your hourly rate
Appalling overall treatment of employees at the expense of customers
    Zero support from corporate
    Deceptive pricing practices
Too much emphasis on opening credit card apps
Too cheap to hire to professional cleaning service

    Advice to Management

    Pros

You get the hours you need, the pay is nice, and the store was well kept and helping with merchandising the store was fun. Getting time off when needed was nice as well.

    Cons

I did not like the management at all. There was really no motivation to sell for the sales team and there were no meetings to have everyone on the same page.

    Cons

Long hours, hard to get noticed unless you're management or your boss likes you, no travel, long meetings, a lot of excel, a lot of reports that give you the same information

    Advice to Management

Need new managers who are more democratic and who are hungry for attention
