    Pros

Learn sales skills. Make quick friends.

    Cons

You either fit in or you don’t. You’ll know if you get invited to your bosses house for drinks if you fit in. And they’ll give you more leniency on hours

    Advice to Management

Management has unrealistic expectations sometimes of goals

I worked at New York & Company full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Monthly sales bonuses for nearly all levels of management. Decent PTO and reasonable hours. Employee discount is nice as well.

    Cons

High turnovers both in store and corporate. Changing executives means changing policies. More work and no hours. Awful pay for lower level associates.

    Advice to Management

If you’re going to change policies and procedures, give us the time and hours to get it done. Respond to your stores in a timely manner

I worked at New York & Company (More than a year)

    Pros

Good discount. Flexible hours. Possible room for growth

    Cons

A lot of pressure to open credit cards and meet sales goals. Managment could not retain talent because expected a lot out of the sales associates.

I worked at New York & Company full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Decent health benefits, discount, pto time, clothes, jewelry.
I enjoyed helping people feel beautiful and training and development of my team.
    Visual merchandising

    Cons

As a salaried manager, I was working 50 hours a week. Low wages and hours available for part time staff which caused high turnover. No work life balance...over night shifts, weekends, holidays, no payroll. No support from upper management. Constant sale changes and a lot of tasking which pulled us away from what we are there to do, help customers and build sales. If you didn't perform in credit be prepared. That's all the company cares about- credit! Took discount away a lot. Promos and coupons not customer friendly.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees. Pay more to help retention!

I have been working at New York & Company full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great discount on fashionable clothes. Great group of women to work with,

    Cons

Reduction in payroll hours keeps associates and managers from doing their best job. Really hard to help customers with the amount of tasks to complete everyday. Everything is focused on getting customers to open the store credit card. Sales are down and there is a pay freeze.

    Advice to Management

HQ needs to focus less on audits, daily paperwork, daily marketing changes. There should be payroll for training new sales associates and better starting wages otherwise the turnover will continue to be high.
