I have been working at New York & Company full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Working with really great people, opportunity to reach bonus, learning the in's and out's of running a business

    Cons

Low pay, over worked employees, difficult customers, constantly flipping a floor set, massive promotion changes (on a daily and weekly basis), very little payroll

    Advice to Management

Upper level management and executives need to understand why the customer is coming in to shop and what sale she prefers (Meaning a SIMPLE campaign). Communication with regional and district managers needs to be priority! Start valuing your managers, we have a tremendously heavy work load with no work-life balance. We need to be better compensated (especially SM) and appreciated for all we sacrifice for New York & Company. Plus flipping a metro every 1 to 2 weeks is exhausting and nearly impossible with such little payroll and three times the allocation.

Expect too much and they don't train you correctly

Train the people before giving them tasks that they don't know how to do

I worked at New York & Company part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I worked with this company for over two years and a great benefit is of course the discount. We received 30-40% discount on all of our purchases, and when new merchandise came out we received 50% off. My manager was very friendly and easy to work with.

    Cons

The downside of this job is you work very hard and get paid very little. It is extremely hard to get a promotion within this company. You work long vigorous holiday hours. They make you sell their credit hours or you won't be put on schedule. I felt very guilty about selling people a credit card which puts people in debt and has extremely high interest rights with little benefits.

    Advice to Management

The management should allow more room for promotions, and fight for better pay. Employees should be given bonuses and receive over time pay for salary. Scheduled work hours should not be based off of how many credit card signings you get.

I worked at New York & Company part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

First employee purchase is 50% off , then employee discount goes down to 30% for associates and 40% for managemt

    Cons

Push for credit cards was insane, how many credits you receive reflects on how many hours management will give you. You have to practically harass customers to get a card. Closing routine is ridiculous, most of the time its just one associate with a manager and since the manager takes an hour to count money the associate cleans the entire store by themselves. Recover, sweep, and mop the whole floor. Coupons were a pain with customers because the restrictions prevented them from ever using it. Training is minimal, and you'll have a lot of co workers who don't know what theyre doing and theres conflict with team work

    Pros

Great clothing, awesome deals, Great locations

    Cons

    Advice to Management

Slow down on sale changes and being more open to suggestions from staff
