I worked at New York & Company full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The leadership was the most amazing and inspirational when I began with NYCO. However the current is far from amazing and inspirational. So NYCO went from the best to the worst of the worst. The positive is the state of CA is pro the employee and the laws support fair and ethical expectations of the CA workforce.

    Cons

The leadership on the west coast is horrific. The executive team is criminal in there treatment of the field.

    Advice to Management

You allowed great leaders to exit the company, and replaced them with the bottom-feeders in the retail world. The company's results are a result of poor choices and subpar leadership. DISGUSTING! Lawsuit after lawsuit has not taught the Executives anything about running this company well. What it has shown is that the executive leadership team knows how to run a company and its talent into the ground. The failings of this executive team should be red flags but even now the complacency is just a sign that NYCO will not survive under the current leadership. Where is the Board of Directors? When will someone stop the destruction of this company? NYCO is one step behind the now obsolete Limited. Learn before its to late.

    Pros

Good place to work. People are friendly, and office is easy to get to by bus or train or subway.

    Cons

Lots of turnover! There are some incompetent people in upper management positions and there is constantly a redirection of focus.

    Advice to Management

I would suggest talking to your employees more, rather than just in an employment interview or exit interview. Get to know what people think,be involved.

I worked at New York & Company (More than a year)

    Pros

New York and Company is a great company to work with, good hours, the employees and management we work with are great and very supportive, very knowledgable.

    Cons

Some cons would definitely be organization with the store. Promotions can be hectic. Customers always feel like they have been tricked to come in and use their coupons when they find out the exclusions at the register. PLease READ exclusions! Always changing and moving around merchandise, hard to keep up with low staff. Communication can be very poor.

    Advice to Management

I would advise management to be more understanding of everyones different prospectives. (customers and employees) Overall doing a good job, keep up the work.

I worked at New York & Company part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

You get the hours you need, the pay is nice, and the store was well kept and helping with merchandising the store was fun. Getting time off when needed was nice as well.

    Cons

I did not like the management at all. There was really no motivation to sell for the sales team and there were no meetings to have everyone on the same page.

I worked at New York & Company full-time

    Pros

It gives you the ability to improve your professional and casual wardrobe. The work is not super difficult. The hours aren't bad.

    Cons

The pay is a little low. The expectations are high. The hours can be inconsistent. You don't receive health or any type of benefits.

    Advice to Management

Make the position of sales lead a full 40 hour a week position so that benefits are offered. Don't short change this worker because they're really isn't much difference in responsibilities and expectations.

Good pay, good co workers, great creative marketing team,

    Cons

Long hours, hard to get noticed unless you're management or your boss likes you, no travel, long meetings, a lot of excel, a lot of reports that give you the same information

    Advice to Management

Need new managers who are more democratic and who are hungry for attention

I worked at New York & Company (More than a year)

    Pros

Very convenient and friendly environment. Need to elaborate on policies for temps in participating in Company's incentatives. Company invitations to Sample Sales are not for temps to participate in and are not informed instead encouraged by departments you're working for and if participated, position become terminated.

    Cons

employees are mechanical and don't think out the box

    Advice to Management

be open to new employees and their abilities instead of playing it safe.

I worked at New York & Company part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

They paid slightly more than other retail stores. Employee discount was nice.

    Cons

Company misrepresents sales/coupons to customers. Workers are valued more for their ability to convince people to apply for a store card than for their actual work ethic and overall value as an employee. Managers were very rude to employees, which is the main reason that I quit.

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees like people. Fire/retrain the management in the Barboursville, WV store. They seem to have a difficult time remembering that employees get breaks and that they, as managers/supervisors, shouldn't just sit in the back and pretend to work the entire time.
