I worked at NewPage full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Family atmosphere with very friendly employees.

    Cons

    rocky industry to be in!

  2. "Rewarding Co-op"

I worked at NewPage as an intern

    Pros

Lots of experiences are available. How much you get out of the co-op is dependent on how much you want to learn. There is available guidance and you will be given a mentor, but if you must have self drive in order to get as much as you can out of this experience.

    Cons

The mill is huge and very old so it can be hard as a first time engineering intern to get a grasp on the entire process. You will also be on the only intern for most of your time there.

    Advice to Management

Incorporate more co-op opportunities in each engineering department of the mill. This will provide more chances for young engineers who might want to work there after graduation.

    Doesn't Recommend
    Negative Outlook
    No opinion of CEO

I worked at NewPage full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Work life balance, friendly coworkers, positive culture, various opportunities, valued employees, working late was not typical, rapid lean six sigma company

    Cons

In an industry that was dying, the company could not adapt quickly, engineering was valued over all other fields, little opportunity for advancement

    Advice to Management

In a company that was going bankrupt, I wish they would have started some innovative thinking about product offerings or reduce capacity to help the market

I worked at NewPage as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Was able to work directly on the paper machines doing trial work for new grade development. Actually got to see the finished product once the trial work had been completed.

    Cons

No real complaints. One of my best intern experiences.

    Negative Outlook

I have been working at NewPage full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Legacy NewPage Management was very supportive and worked to develop employees.

    Cons

Staffing is being cut and layoffs are likely. However, if you hold a position that is not laying off retention and spot bonuses are generous to keep employees from leaving.

    Pros

I've worked for NewPage Corporation for several years in the Maintenance Department. Good pay and benefits

    Cons

Health insurance plans have been downgraded as far as coverage with an increased out of pocket expense. Working overtime can be good or bad depending on your situation

    Advice to Management

Overall management does a good job.
