    Pros

    Somewhat decent Salary and benefits.

    Cons

Finally NewPage is no more, purchased by Verso. Upper management allowed self serving managers to terminate older CPI employees to make room for their cronies. What a disgrace NewPage was. They tried to prove they could run a company after they were released by Mead Westvaco. They failed miserably. Too bad so many were hurt by the incompetence.

    Advice to Management

Why give advice. They listen to nobody, unless it lines their pockets.

  3. "Good Job, good benefits, no room for advancement."

    Pros

Pay is competitive. Benefits are good, but progressively becoming less valuable. Very talented folks around you. Training budget is very limited.

    Cons

No room for advancement, raises are nonexistent. Facilities are not maintained and there is very little capital available to improve production.

    Advice to Management

Upgrade your infrastructure. It's declining rapidly due to lack of maintenance and capital investment.

I have been working at NewPage full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The company has good benefits and respectable salaries and bonuses for management employees. There are opportunities for advancement if you know the right people.

    Cons

Financially, the company is not sound, and the paper industry is a declining market. Senior management has made many decisions that have hindered the progress of the company for the long-term.

    Advice to Management

Implementing programs that are very costly such as Manufacturing Excellence, only to then implement edicts that cut maintenance costs to the bone (which are directly conflicting with the ME processes) as a short-term cost saving initiative, will put the company backwards, not forward in the long-term. It is very demoralizing to employees when these decisions are made at the top level.

    Pros

    Great Leadership
    Innovative thinking
    Outstanding Mills
    Training is stellar

    Cons

The main difficulty is the industry itself. There are so many companies merging, collapsing, and you never know when it will affect you.

    Pros

Flexible with a strong work/family balance. Organization generally does what is best for their employees. Benefits and compensation are probably slightly above average.

Operations are some of the best in the US and provide quality product that is recognized throughout North America.

    Cons

Being acquired by a competitor who has no idea what they are getting into. Very little faith in the new management, that they will have what it takes to run the company successfully.

    Pros

Good hours, good pay, good benefits, good employees. Employees work hard, contribute willingly to community needs and are just good people.

    Cons

Management refuses to take responsibility and has a Corporate attitude where they separate what they do from the rest of the company. Some UNION attitudes at work with the employees too.

    Advice to Management

Face the consequences of your actions and take responsibility.

    Pros

Wages are very good. Some positions present a challenge and a sense of accomplishment. Many of your co-workers are great to work with.

    Cons

Not all things are as they seem. There often seems that an agenda exists but is not shared with everyone. Some positions have no chance for advancement due to union seniority.

    Advice to Management

Invest in your employees. Most of your employees are devoted to the Company's success and work hard to be part of that success.

    Pros

    Stable employer
    Great sales team
Value and encourage team-work (regardless of department)
    Community involvement
    Work / life balance
    Wellness programs
Knowledgeable & experienced senior management team

    Cons

Lack of career development - ie: managers - they manage more than develop their reports.
    no formal mentoring programs
    Typical office politics
Pay is frequently at industry minimums
Management needs more engagement with people doing the day to day jobs

    Advice to Management

Career development - Implement a formal mentoring program; Push to learn each employee's career aspirations and update that information / understanding on a regular basis; additionally offer insight from management's perspective on potential opportunities based on their views of the individual's strengths, weaknesses and aspirations.
Implement "Employee Engagement" surveys, at least bi-annually, to determine employee satisfaction - level of challenge, rate of pay, opportunity for growth, etc.
