I have been working at NewStar Financial full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Very positive environment where everyone supports you. Team challenges eachother daily to work hard and get deals done. Leadership is very experienced

    Cons

There are not many challenges. Only one I can think of is trying to get enough deals for everyone to work on

    Advice to Management

Only advice is to keep up the good work

I have been working at NewStar Financial full-time

    Pros

I've been at NewStar for a few years. It has great benefits and a competitive salary. I've found the culture to be corporate with just enough camaraderie. I'd say everyone is pretty even-keeled, fair and friendly.

NewStar was recently purchased by First Eagle. There will be some really positive welcome changes coming in the next year for everyone here. Opportunities for advancement are on the horizon for just about every level and type of job here from what I can tell. Which is why I felt like writing this review. There could be a lot of hiring in the future if all goes well with this and so I think anyone reading about NewStar should be aware of that.
Sports is a common topic. The Boston location can't be beat. The office space itself would benefit from a better layout.

    Cons

There is a culture of staying late, not a big deal in itself but there is perhaps too much value placed on it by employees and managers. The staff is mostly male.

    Advice to Management

While I might have had a few things to say here before, I think it's worth pausing and seeing whats to come with the changes ahead of all of us. Good job striking a deal with the company purchase that was thoughtful for all of us and I look forward to the future here. I will hold off on filling out "ratings" on this as well.

    Pros

Newstar was a great first job and good exposure as an analyst

    Cons

Be prepared for the company to not be fully honest to you; low pay (all money goes to senior level buddies of the CEO who add very little value)
