I worked at NewStar Financial full-time

    Pros

Newstar was a great first job and good exposure as an analyst

    Cons

Be prepared for the company to not be fully honest to you; low pay (all money goes to senior level buddies of the CEO who add very little value)

    Pros

Opportunity to see deal flow and gain similar skill sets of that of the bulge brackets. You are surrounded by smart people.

    Cons

Lack of clear communication from management. It can be a bit of a sweat shop due to lack of support if you happen to be in a branch office location.

    Advice to Management

If you plan to branch out to ancillary cities, be sure to equip those locations with an analyst or two. Also, don't be too quick to branch out as you did for purposes or portraying a national company for the IPO.
