I worked at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Lots of exposure to other hospital departments and teams
    - Great experience for patient-facing services
    - Decent compensation package

    Cons

    - The Dept is led by intimidation; there's no instilling of core hospital values into team environment.
    - Lots of "closed door" meetings about other team members; colleagues tend to be very gossipy.
    - Poor department and team culture with very little conflict resolution.
    - A lot micromanagers and often have trouble advocating on behalf of their direct reports.
    - Unrealistic expectations around overnight and weekend coverage as pertains to the respective department.
    - Everything is a "fire" thus making it hard to know what is most important to prioritize at any given time.
    - Office facilities and technology are very outdated and create barrier for actually getting work done in a professional manner.
    - Actual office work space was limited; as team members were hired, often there would be no extra desk space or computers available. Communication teams were often working in inadequate, unfit, and unsanitary work spaces.

    Advice to Management

If you want people to feel invested in doing their best work, lead by example and develop actual team values versus leading by favoritism and intimidation. Also, please understand the difference in jobs, as it pertains to patient-facing and operational roles to better support the growth of your employees throughout the company.
