I worked at Newark Public Schools full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Pay was decent, school had its own parking lot. There are no other pros I can think of at this time.

    Cons

Medical insurance is expensive, students are disrespectful and physically go after teachers, students often steal from classrooms if you don't lock up your belongs, consequences for students' misbehavior is inconsistent, aides are not trained properly, cannot voice your opinion for fear of retaliation, paperwork and data collection is extensive and time consuming, do not feel like you are part of a team, lack of resources available to teachers.

    Advice to Management

Administration should not pick favorites, staff should be allowed to voice there opinion, more support to first year teachers, more support and training given to teachers and aides working with special education students, better communication, clean working environment, make your staff feel welcomed and that they are part of a team.
