    Pros

Newfield has a generous bonus program. The staff is great to work with. Had they not laid me off I would still be with them today.

    Cons

An oil and gas company is an ever changing environment, but in my opinion this last round of layoffs, centralization of offices into the Woodlands, and subsequent departmental reorganizations has cut to the bone more so than any prior actions.

    Advice to Management

My fear with the layoffs and reorganization is that some of the management personnel that have been retained or the new people moved into management may not be what the company needs to move forward in a healthy way. With everything that the company has gone through, my advice would be to watch the effectiveness of each management team and move out the people that are not fulfilling their roles.

    Pros

    1) Outstanding team of employees in all locations 2) Leadership that knows how to survive and excel in any market environment 3) Evolving company

    Cons

    1) Leadership not always as forthright as they could be with employees (i.e. location consolidation, layoffs, new programs, etc.)

    Advice to Management

Being more transparent with employees will build more trust. The decision to consolidate should have come out in 2012/2013 when you released your first 3 year plan.

    Pros

Good pay, good schedule, good people. The company had many benefits such as gym reimbursements, company vehicle, company phone, etc...

    Cons

Very good experience working for Newfield. Unfortunately the oil and gas industry is very volatile as we've recently seen and are still experiencing.

    Advice to Management

    None at all

I worked at Newfield Exploration as an intern (More than a year)

    Pros

Newfield trusts in its employees to love the company enough to go above and beyond the minimum duties. Everyone pitched in together on projects and were legitimately excited about making money and doing good work. Passion was strong and Newfield provided the funding for almost any pilot we asked.

    Cons

Upper Management made some decisions that hurt the company without really doing any consulting work with the employees that would have noticed the detriment. A lot of freedom for exploration comes with a price, and Newfield paid it. I couldn't handle not knowing where the company would be in a few years so I decided not to pursue full-time opportunities.

    Advice to Management

For the most part, excellent work. But back when I was working there, there was room for improvement as far as team buy-in on pilot projects.

I worked at Newfield Exploration full-time

    Pros

Great technical people. Some smart executives. Good quality assets.

    Cons

Way too many VP's, directors, and GM's. Non-essential groups distract from asset and operations teams improving the business.

    Advice to Management

Thin down the top, drives folks nuts.
