I worked at Newmont Goldcorp full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

The salaries are good. The stability (for a mining company) is good. Coworkers are good. They have good avenues for education and career path.

    Cons

Over the past 5 years they have taken focus off of employee satisfaction. Benefits are much poorer yet more expensive. Bullying is not only tolerated but accepted as a way to get results. Human Resources focuses more on process and punishment than strategic items.

    Advice to Management

Go back to thinking of people as being as precious as gold.

I worked at Newmont Goldcorp full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Salary, bonuses, most of the people

    Cons

Matrix leadership in disarray, too many 'bosses' not enough 'doers', people afraid to make decisions, leadership missing in action, huge no man's land separation between top management and everyone else.

    Advice to Management

Firm up the leadership and decision-making and ensure the message is clear from top down, and that everyone fully understands the mission and path forward. Stop laying off all the folks at the bottom while you retain all the VPs.

    Pros

Great company. Great severance package; thank you, I would do it again. Not for the faint hearted!

    Cons

One political appointment wiped out the whole team of 5 people.

    Advice to Management

I worked at Newmont Goldcorp full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Not much, poor management, cutthroat team environment. Inconsistent goals, objectives and constant undercutting people who do the work. The environment creates managements look at me attitude amongst the teams.

    Cons

If you like others throwing others under the bus constantly, work here. If you value relationships, this place will make you think everyone in the world is a devious con artist. If not don't work here. Management thinks they are gods and makes all employees think about themselves. A lot of unnecessary drama here. Oh and constant layoffs. Do you want to fear for your job every day? Then work for Newmont. The culture is...

    Advice to Management

You need a reality check. Those who make comments like feed the grass to fruition, this isn't your same old Dallas Cowboys, elephant in the room, and nothing but buzzwords in meetings, etc, you're not driving the bus, you're creating uncertainty. Learn the fundamentals, trust your employees, and put less value on consultants who are fresh out of college and know nothing about how to run a company. Find core values and...

Became a larger organisation during period of increasing gold price, with many roles not necessary. Large Head office and regional offices duplicating effort and diluting direction. Due to detailed of business processes can lead to lack of responsive to opportunities.

I have been working at Newmont Goldcorp full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

There are always interesting projects and opportunities to learn and grow on the job. The workforce is highly intelligent, and they care. We put out quality, leading edge work in many spaces

    Cons

The Board of Directors and Executive Team are twitchy - the tides of where to head seem to change frequently (~18 months). We've done layoffs around the world for the past 3 years. We have a hierarchical culture that looks for senior advice and go-ahead, unfortunately, with a fair amount of fear underneath of it.

    Advice to Management

Consider what picture to paint of the company 5-10 years from now. We're very short term minded. Focus on the behaviors that will be productive and build relationships.

    Pros

Office culture has shifted from mining veterans to young, high caliber people that creates a collegial atmosphere. Great opportunity to work across functions at Corporate and gain experience with the option to travel worldwide and for expat placement.

    Cons

Limited work-life balance and political power plays are common.

    Advice to Management

Offer excellent pay and benefits, which some refer to as golden handcuffs. They should take a note from Netflix on people management to retain top employees and eliminate mediocrity.
