    Pros

Productive mines and good use of mining software. My boss was fair and worked to give me opportunities.

    Cons

HR is less than ideal and slow to respond to benefit issues.

    Advice to Management

Hold HR to same standards of accountability as operations.

I have been working at Newmont Mining full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Good pay and bonus structure. Sponsor employee development programs.

    Cons

Very vague and minimal direction from leadership. They give mixed messages to the teams as there is no consistency in processes which leaves employees feeling directionless and fighting tactical work rather than being able to focus on strategic initiatives. This seems to be the trend in the company over the last 2 years leaving employees who are career oriented very frustrated as there doesn't seem to be any opportunities for career growth. Leaders seem to be very busy trying to prove themselves to their peers.

I worked at Newmont Mining full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Salary, bonuses, most of the people

    Cons

Matrix leadership in disarray, too many 'bosses' not enough 'doers', people afraid to make decisions, leadership missing in action, huge no man's land separation between top management and everyone else.

    Advice to Management

Firm up the leadership and decision-making and ensure the message is clear from top down, and that everyone fully understands the mission and path forward. Stop laying off all the folks at the bottom while you retain all the VPs.

I have been working at Newmont Mining full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great salary and benefits; flexible work arrangements; global opportunities.

    Cons

Management disconnected from the business; too many new programs at once; top heavy management structure; "do more with less" approach

    Advice to Management

Focus the critical few programs and activities and ensure that the organization is staffed at the "right" levels; pay less attention to the number of employees in a role and more attention to whether employees are doing the right role.

I worked at Newmont Mining full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Great people, great team feeling

    Cons

You never feel safe in your job here. There were rounds of layoffs for the 3 years straight I worked there. Everyone was always fearful.

    Advice to Management

Give open and honest information to employees. If you know change is coming, communicate effectively.

    Pros

great pay, great benefits, and good people for the most part

    Cons

top heavy management throughout. IT CIO with two senior directors only care about what's in it for them. Speak about being open and transparent while they each would derail the other if it benefited them.

    Pros

They have good benefits, good pay and were a good global citizen considering they are a mining company. They employ a variety of top-notch, educated employees.

    Cons

Amazing amount of layoffs considering their business is doing well, creating very low employee morale. Getting rid of key employees as well as mailroom workers and almost every administrative assistant. I didn't experience much personal growth there, but overall enjoyed my job. Also had such a large workload that I worked through lunch regularly and stayed late regularly, so not a great work-life balance.

    Advice to Management

Why so many layoffs, esp. of so many loyal, low-salaried employees? The people left behind are having to knock themselves out picking up the slack. The upper management, with their enormous salaries, fancy trips, private plane, etc. are certainly not having to cut back at all. It's a shame - used to be such a great company to work for,.

I have been working at Newmont Mining full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

There are always interesting projects and opportunities to learn and grow on the job. The workforce is highly intelligent, and they care. We put out quality, leading edge work in many spaces

    Cons

The Board of Directors and Executive Team are twitchy - the tides of where to head seem to change frequently (~18 months). We've done layoffs around the world for the past 3 years. We have a hierarchical culture that looks for senior advice and go-ahead, unfortunately, with a fair amount of fear underneath of it.

    Advice to Management

Consider what picture to paint of the company 5-10 years from now. We're very short term minded. Focus on the behaviors that will be productive and build relationships.
