I worked at Newmont Mining as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

The company culture is pretty fun. It is fast paced and a lot can be expected of you, but it isn't a dull workplace. You will generally work 10 or 12 hour shifts, which tend to feel much shorter as you are busy constantly. Managers and employees are usually willing to explain something or help out as long as you aren't demanding or causing problems.

    Cons

You will have some issues with work life balance in Winnemucca or Elko as the towns aren't exactly college student friendly. If you are an outdoors person, you will fair much better.

    Advice to Management

Hang on to the intern program, it is beneficial to the industry and it helps young professionals get started and find out where they are going to go in life. It also gives you time to learn about potential candidates.

I worked at Newmont Mining full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Newmont has good benefits, they also have flexible work life balance depending on what department you might work in

    Cons

It's hard to move around or move up in the organization. There are a lot of glass ceilings. It's dependent upon your manager if you are able to move around or become promoted.

    Advice to Management

Promote from within. There's a lot of wonderful talent who know the industry, which is overlooked and a very important part of the job is to know and understand gold mining.
