I worked at News Corp (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Some good people work here, particularly at the lower levels, but apart from that Rupert's Evil Empire has little to recommend it.

    Cons

    Vicious, ruthless office politics
    Smug, self-pleasuring management
Constant cost-cutting (though not, one suspects, when it comes to management salaries and perks)
    Working in a declining industry

    Advice to Management

Ask yourself - is this really how I wanted to turn out? What would my 21-year-old self make of the way I spend my days

I worked at News Corp (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Work is varied
    - You will gain a wide range of experience in various applications such as Methode, Salesforce along with technical systems such as PABX and networks

    Cons

No career growth. All technical teams are based in NSW and as nobody leaves and teams are not expanding, the role is a job at News Corp, not a career. You'll need to find another employer if you wish to move up

I worked at News Corp full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    - Some of the staff are really passionate about their work, have a good strong work ethic, and are just nice people to work with.
    - Free on-site parking
    - On-site gym and cafe, both with reasonable prices (not cheap, just cheaper than some city prices)

    Cons

    - Note how I only said some of the staff? The culture there needs improvement, while some people work hard, others will take credit for their work, steal clients, do whatever it takes to look good to their boss or make a bonus. Others might just do the bare minimum & pass the buck and they are still there, destroying the morale.
    - The building, although recently renovated, has some maintenance issues that need to be worked on; water leaking into ceilings after heavy storms, mould grows... nothing done about it.

    Advice to Management

Pay your staff more, expect more of them, and any who aren't performing need to be managed out.
Pay for repairs, mould is NOT and should never be something that is just left alone, especially with staff below.

    Neutral Outlook

I have been working at News Corp full-time

    Pros

    Strong learning curve
    Reasonable salary for the role
Lots of company functions i.e. drinks and lunches

    Cons

Lack of entrepreneurial spirit and collaboration across various teams
Decisions struggling to be centralised due to multi-silo business
Forced leave (Given tough economic times)
Important to select the job based on line manager rather than company (A lot of challenging mid-level managers who are only in it for themselves)

    Advice to Management

Remove dead wood, fill the business with more like-minded entrepreneurs to help drive the business forward as they are willing to collaborate. A lot of the existing dead wood is stunting the company from halting decline or from being able to grow
