I worked at News Corp full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

An exciting opportunity. Newscorp has a wealth of content and great variety of brands with which to leverage that content online. Newscorp has the vision to be a major Internet leader down the road.

    Cons

The brands did not always cooperate as effectively as they could have. There was good understanding of the roles of all the brands but working between them can require some senior management involvement.

    Advice to Management

Streamline inter-company communication and support initiatives across the holding company. Continue to invest in new technology and don't be afraid to sacrifice old revenue models.

    Pros

Willing to invest in start-ups within the company. Annual bonuses for newsroom staff.

    Cons

Got content management system cheap by using staff as beta testers, which made for an editorial workflow that was duct-taped together and caused constant emergencies. Horrible. Lots of money spent on marquee hires who barely bothered to show up.

    Advice to Management

Don't cheap out on technology on one hand, but distribute iPads on the other. Give staff the tools required to do great work.

Former Employee - Anonymous Employee in New York, NY

I worked at News Corp full-time

    Pros

You'll learn from some seasoned smart journalists. Not all of them are great managers, however.

    Cons

There are also some mediocre staffers who don't pull their weight. It can feel like an assembly line. Tenure sometimes outranks talent.

    Advice to Management

Spend more time on talent management and realistically assess workloads, which can differ quite dramatically.
