    Pros

People genuinely care about the well being of each other.

    Cons

There are often people that are down and sometimes the things the say are taken as truth.

    Advice to Management

More positivity and energy would help with morale.

    Pros

Not one I can think of.

    Cons

The glowing reviews written here in 2019 were commissioned by CEO Chris Ruddy and managed by CFO Andy Brown and HR. Few FT employees remain. They are seeking to hire. DO NOT put Newsmax on your resume. It's a death knell in the broadcast and media industry.

    Advice to Management

Stop lying to people how successful you are.

I have been working at NewsMax Media full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

I've been a professional for over 30 years. I feel Newsmax offers the best atmosphere I've found. I discovered Newsmax in 2014, and have been a full time employee since. I have been with the company for five years and would never think of leaving! I was recommended by a lawyer who worked in the same building. Newsmax responded quickly to the suggestion. Truly collegial work environment, really nice people I've run across...

    Cons

News workload can be demanding. The company focused recently on the growth of its TV channel, which doesn't make everyone happy. But growth there is strong. I'd suggest if it's bankers hours you seek, perhaps that is a more suitable employment venue for you.

    Advice to Management

Keep making Newsmax the challenging, professionally relaxed place it is. Share more progress reports with staff!

    No opinion of CEO

I worked at NewsMax Media full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The people are what made my experience positive. I’ll miss them the most. Nice atmosphere/building. Free coffee, sodas, snacks, and team/morale building special events.

    Cons

Sometimes certain people can get hot under the collar and accuse before gathering all the facts. Not a whole lot of room for advancement unless somebody quits or gets terminated due to financial struggles.

    "Bizarre Workplace, Bleak Outlook"

    StarStarStarStarStar
      Current Employee - Anonymous Employee

I have been working at NewsMax Media

      Pros

The only positive things about Newsmax are the employees. There are some truly talented people who work/worked here. The downside here, though, is that all (yes, all) of those people are desperately seeking employment elsewhere or are demoralized. It is a sea of empty desks, with a few remaining worker bees trudging through their days, taking on the tasks of those who have quit or were terminated. I do not know ONE employee...

      Cons

The two biggest problems (nightmares?) at Newsmax are vision and culture. This is a strange company with leadership that appears to think only in terms of what was popular 20 years ago. There is a push to grow, but no strategy, no resources, and no support. The “eggs” are in the TV basket, but revenue from other departments cannot sustain the albatross - this is the CEO’s dream, but it is one that can’t and won’t ever...

      Advice to Management

Please, PLEASE, reassess and overhaul the culture. Please. Respect our input. Acknowledge that there are serious flaws that will continue to deplete the company of its best employees and resources. The vision issue is hopeless, as that is solely the CEO’s domain. Things to consider: -LOW MORALE -Acknowledgement of weaknesses -preferential treatment/promotions -lack of support and training -respect for employees with...

I worked at NewsMax Media full-time for more than a year

      Pros

Mostly nice people, either at very beginning or very end of their unremarkable careers.

      Cons

Everyone is continually afraid of losing their job, and they will because no one lasts longer than a few years. The quality of the website and TV has deteriorated as workers keep getting cut, while managers sit around doing nothing. There are too many people in charge, telling too few workers what to do. You can tell how desperate the people who do nothing are to prove their importance by how much they tell others...

      Advice to Management

There's no point in providing advice to people who are delusional. This company is 20 years behind the times and doesn't have the money to invest for future growth.

      Pros

You will learn how to work with really difficult people. I guess there is a lesson in that.

      Cons

It is a very political environment. A lot of negativity. A ton of focus on the CEO's passion ... getting Newsmax on TV. They ignore where the money is made ... financial publications and health publications. Leadership is controlling. The top managers are only there because they are "yes men" to the CEO. Not bad people really. They just don't dare challenge him. The biggest negative is that they have you sign...

      Advice to Management

Allow your team to grow by letting them be creative with initiatives. Most of all, don't ever make people sign a 2-year non-compete ... not in this industry, and then enforce it even when you fire them.

      Pros

      Decent salary...Free Snacks, nice location.

      Cons

This place sucks, Complete lack of management organization. They don't care about you, and a very high turnover rate. Their sales department is a popularity contest, the company veterans get all the business. If you're new, most likely won't last... you might survive with a decent pay for a few weeks but that's about it.

      Advice to Management

What management? there is no management.... Everybody has their heads up their you know where... Total waste of time, don't even bother.

      Pros

Pretty relaxed and quiet environment. There doesn’t seem to be much stress in the office which is nice. Perhaps some have found it a little too quiet at times but that’s how Chris likes it. The free snacks are a nice touch but I always felt it was overall a beautiful building and great place to hang your hat. Chris can be a visionary and many people think it’s great that he’s taking the risk of starting a TV network....

      Cons

It’s Chris’ company and it’s made well-known so. He certainly has the right to do whatever he wants, so you can’t blame him for his dream of having a successful TV network. Unfortunately from a financial perspective the payoff doesn’t seem to be there and I’m not sure it will ever be. Distribution of the network is one thing, but when faced with the current viewership numbers despite being in upwards of 70 million...

      Advice to Management

Chris is similar to my wife, only in that neither really want to hear my opinion, but rather for my opinion to be one that reaffirms the opinion he/she had in the first place. In some respects it’s a company of “Yes-men” afraid to challenge Chris. This leads to situations where Chris (at the “50,000 foot view”) is making specific and detailed decisions for people at ground level who are in the weeds and might have good...
