    Pros

Fairly exciting work environment. Digital publishing is big now. Lots of varied and interesting work for engineering. Minimal meetings.

    Cons

Not much. The engineering team is kind of a farm and a bit noisy. Strategy changes fairly quickly, so not in common to see incomplete projects.

    Advice to Management

Be movers of obstacles for the team you manage. Try harder to shields the management details from those you manage. Keep scrums short.

    Pros

Flexible, good group of people to work with, opportunity for advancement. Interesting growing and dynamic industry. Lots of growth opportunity in this industry

    Cons

Suffers from the typical start up pains....lots of work to be done in a very short time. Industry is rapidelly changing and requires constant adjustments and changes in direction.

    Advice to Management

    Learn to communicate better

    Pros

    Growing market, opportunities for growth.

    Cons

The digital reading market is changing so rapidly.

    Advice to Management

Now that RR Donnelley owns the company - make sure to keep the direction that Russ Reeder (the old CEO) was taking the company and the culture.

    Pros

They have a huge opportunity to lead their industry. Their customer base is a publishing industry' who's who. They are in a very dynamic industry. Working here allows employees to have an immediate impact on the customers business.

    Cons

Products architecture is unstable and causes heroic employee effort to serve customers. The constantly changing company direction has lead to incomplete execution an virtually all initiatives. Senior management is in a constant state of change. this cascades to employees as a sense of of being lost.

    Advice to Management

    listen to individual contributors more

    I worked at NewsStand full-time

    Pros

    Flexibility regarding working from home

    Cons

The future of the company does not look good. Great software application for the clients but sales are not where they should be and it's hurting the company.

The culture needs to change...motivation and appreciation would go a long way!

    Advice to Management

Stop converting content for publishers and focus on {H} to boldly going into other markets for asset management.

Allow stakeholders input into the new functionality of the application that is crucial for customers; it would eliminate the need for using old applications that are adding to processing times.

I have been working at NewsStand full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I appreciate the laid-back atmosphere and enjoy coming into work in flip flops and shorts. There's no micro-managing here and you don't even clock in or out. The vending machines (one for snacks and one for soda) only cost a quarter!!

    Cons

Nobody cares here. Clients keep walking because of empty promises. Management does not care about employees or processes. The company is very much in a state of rapid decline.

    Advice to Management

Give a crap about what's going on with the company.

  8. "Management of Employees is lacking, many unhappy people; pay and benefits for the software engineers isn't competitive."

I have been working at NewsStand full-time

    Pros

Compensation was fine, raises were very tiny since the acquisition by RR Donnelley. Company is not profitable which puts a strain on the employees.

    Cons

Poor management of negative employees which is a huge impact to the culture of the company

    Advice to Management

So many people have left the company, it might be time to re-evaluate what is going wrong.
