I have been working at Newsbank full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Overall the people are wonderful and many have been with the company a long time. There are multiple opportunities for advancement within the organization. I started in sales and over my 18 year career have had the opportunity to hold several roles with increasing responsibility, ultimately rising to a vice president position. The company invests in employee development and provides coaching and training opportunities at all levels of the organization. Additionally, it is a very women friendly environment. We have several women who are in management and senior management positions. Finally, employees have multiple opportunities to speak regularly with senior management and the president of the company. Not all organizations give employees at all levels the opportunity to speak with the president of the company who is genuinely interested in your thoughts.

    Cons

Sometimes it takes us a longer to make decisions.

    Advice to Management

Continue to provide an open door policy, invest in your employees and provide opportunities for advancement.

    Pros

you get an office and the people are friendly

    Cons

If you are looking to advance through the company you are wasting your time. They do not hire within and if you are in sale you are stuck in sales. Price approvals and any kind of approvals take so long that you will lose deal because of this. They do not invest in their employees and they are more focused on call numbers and minutes than actual growth

    Advice to Management

Completely restructure your management style. Focus on closing business more than making dials and getting minutes. Promote from within. Completely redesign the training program. Focus on employee incentives for sales force. If a rep reaches their goal, give them something. This motivates people. More people are going to leave

    Pros

NewsBank values its employees and seeks to promote talented individuals. There are ample opportunities to carve your own niche in the business, especially when you demonstrate impact on the bottom line. Management provides professional development opportunities and is invested in employees' growth.

    Cons

Cautious decision making can put projects on hold. You need to be comfortable with ambiguity and a self-starter willing to forge your own path with loose guidelines.

    Advice to Management

Continue to focus on employee development. Set clear guidelines and expectations.

    Pros

naples is a nice place. good team of colleagues to work with.

    Cons

sales management micromanages. incredible amount of red tape. very poor internal proposal approval process. little to no tools for salespeople to succeed. librarians are a boring crowd to sell to. competing in industry where superior products/services are free. goals are impossible to attain. hard work is not recognized/rewarded. highest-priced in industry.

    Advice to Management

you try to sell this stuff. nb is outdated compared to competition, get with program. delete the thick internal politics and get behind your salespeople. provide tools for sales folks instead of making things more difficult. please take a sales/management 101 course.

The company is filled with smart people and is in a solid industry. There are many people who have been with the company their entire successful careers. If you have skills, NewsBank will find a good fit for you.

    Cons

Slow decision making. The leadership team was careful to make the right decisions for their customers and for the company which did cause some problems from time to time.

    Advice to Management

You've built a great business. I enjoyed working there.

    Pros

You will likely have multiple, face-to-face conversations with several senior executives during the interview process- be sure to leverage this time to ask many, candid and challenging questions.

    Cons

Long - full day(s) of interviewing, testing and being "shuffled around" among various executives without a schedule.

If you are used to a polished interview process you may be disappointed.

    Advice to Management

Set interview expectations/timing prior to the interview & provide a schedule to interviewees at least 24 hrs before.

I have been working at Newsbank full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Processed quickly through the stages.

    Cons

Lengthy testing that actually took several hours (several different tests) with really no warning what to expect regarding tests themselves -- really felt blind as to what was expected and what was upcoming. Had a very long interview (told to allow 90 minutes) and given an interview time via e-mail with no live human calling to confirm the time was okay in the first place.

Then despite scoring extremely well on the ridiculously lengthy 3-part test and having an outstanding interview, received a one-sentence rejection in an e-mail.

Tried to inquire as to the reason for the sudden rejection following outstanding rapport during the interview, excellent testing (100% on the technical test), proven stability on previous jobs, including being the number one student from my tech program, etc.; however, my e-mail was rejected, too! They don't even have the courage or decency to address people directly, and this is AFTER a person invests a considerable amount of time into their hiring process, which honestly, almost felt like I was employed and working as it took that much time out of my day. I think this company's behavior is unprofessional and even borders on unethical.

Overall, I had serious warning bells going off as the lack of human interaction during the process is unnerving and alarming.

    Advice to Management

My overall impression after experiencing your hiring practice is that you are similar to a scammer as they, too, keep people in the dark and string them along until the victim inevitably discovers things are not as they seemed. Then they disappear in a poof of ether just as you did! I am not impressed, and I want everyone to know how you treat potential employees!

    Pros

Newsbank was a great place to work. Company understands that employees need a balance between work and life outside of work. Company owner takes great pride in getting to know each and every employee. Management is deeply involved what is going on day to day. They are the pioneers in newspaper archiving and as such have great relationships with that publishing world.

    Cons

Most of the folks that work here have done so for years so the chances of moving up in this company are limited.

    Advice to Management

The company is a little slow to adopt new things. In a way you are in the technology field and should look for help outside of the company at times. Do not rely exclusively on your in house talent.
