I have been working at Newton Medical Center (Kansas) full-time

    Pros

Work/life balance. Never work more than 40 hours a week.

    Cons

The nepotism in this hospital is ridiculous. Sharing the last name of the CEO will get you anything you want whenever you want and you're never held accountable. Destroys morale for everyone else. Upper management is well aware but everyone is too afraid to speak up. There is no room for growth. There is no respect unless you're a middle-aged white male.

    Pros

Small facility so many department personnel knew each other.
    Small community

    Cons

From the first day I was warned about the department director making life miserable for anyone she does not like. I should have taken that as a red flag then. The nurses on the floor thought they were above those with less experienced or education than them.

Lots of differential pay for being prn. Plus if you're on call and get called in you get time and a half.

    Cons

I don't really have any cons.

I worked at Newton Medical Center (Kansas) full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Small hospital, sow the staff becomes like family.

    Cons

Newton medical center is a small hospital, and should be treated as such. When I started out there, the patient to nurse and nurse aid ratios were very reasonable. After a management change, the patient ratios were drastically increased, to the point where the patients saw the staff literately running to keep up with the work load, and asked if we were understaffed on a regular basis.

    Advice to Management

If you want to keep the patient survey score up, and keep good employees from leaving you, you need to revert back to old patient to nurse ratios. It will benefit the wellbeing of the patients, the staff, and the hospital as a whole.

    Pros

Loved the people I worked with

    Cons

When patient count is high, sometimes they would under staff
For the physical and mental stress that you go through, the pay is not worth it.
They don't make it worth being there for what you have to put up with

    Advice to Management

If you want to keep good employees, then you will need to actually pay them what they are worth!!
