    Negative Outlook
    No opinion of CEO

    Pros

9/80 schedule, pay good (due their desperation to keep you), good location.good stepping stone.

    Cons

Too many mid-level managers swinging around their political weight and far removed from the actual work. No support from HR director or Office management team. I watched 80% of the staff here slowly exit throughout my 5 year tenure. I was an excellent employee who started as a temp and moved my way up to a permanent position and three promotions before I realized this was no more than a few stepping stones toward a better career.Office morale in Houston is terrible; no one liked working here and it showed.

    Advice to Management

Practice what you preach. Get rid of dead weight middle managers. Stop the nepotism/favoritism and hold managers accountable for their shortcomings.

    Pros

People are great, nice office, good location. Safe parking, decent benefits, 9 80 workweeks little perks like free coffee and fruit in the coffee bars

    Cons

Big expectations from small staff with no budget. No company culture since bought by Chinese. Experienced staff treated as an excess expense.

    Advice to Management

Listening to experienced technical staff, not the filtered feedback from Middle managers.

I have been working at Nexen full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Used to be good company, some above average benefits

    Cons

Terrible atmosphere, very poor lower management, no benefit increases in years, average industry wages. Very disorganized in 2017, safety gone stupid. HR is a joke, Chinese don't care about Canada operations or employees. Steady decline in Canada operations. Too many old boys still in lower management, with no employee respect

    Advice to Management

Engage communication upwards, listen to employees for procedures and improvements. Lower management stale and needs overhaul if CNOOC has any hopes to be successful. Compensate good employees not listen to scales.

    Pros

Was once one of the largest Canadian energy companies with successful operations in the North Sea and Gulf of Mexico

    Cons

Canadian operations were either sold or shut down. Now Nexen is owned by CNOOC, a subsidiary of the Chinese government.

    Cons

    Advice to Management

Why are you in IT if you are not technical?
