    Pros

It's a great opportunity to dive in and make a different at a growing company. Our close-knit team encourages open feedback and empowers us to work hard. Our CEOs passion and drive always makes you want to work harder. We're in this together to learn from our mistakes and be the best company we can be.

    Cons

Of course I'd like the flexibility to be able to work remotely more. This would help my motivation and productivity :)

I have been working at Nexenta Systems full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Company went through a lot in 2013. Current management team came in late 2013 / early 2014, focused on upgrading operations and investing in products to disrupt enterprise storage market and go after new emerging cloud native workloads. 2014 was turn-around year.
Solid core product. Exciting roadmap. Great people. Great culture (as of mid 2015). Great business partners. High integrity executive team focused on winning the right way. Inspiring CEO with incredible passion for customers, the products and the team.

    Cons

Though the bulk of it has been accomplished, turning around anything is hard work. Expect long hours. It's a start-up environment in a highly competitive space.

    Advice to Management

Maintain focus on customers and partners. Accelerate investment in new scale out products.

    Pros

Lots of very passionate people that are awesome to work with, open "start-up" environment. I have noticed a good amount of workers here have left larger companies to create something new here. Because of the start-up atmosphere there are constantly new things to learn and areas to move up in.

    Cons

Large amount of changes recently, lost lots of people and are gaining new teams. Things seem ok now that they are settling.

    Advice to Management

More activities that bring everyone together

I have been working at Nexenta Systems full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Ability to work remotely
    Salary
Amazingly smart people to work with
Cool technology areas to work in

    Cons

Lack of understanding of how to do real engineering results in unrealistic schedules which are major contributors to product quality issues. These quality issues cause major customer problems. Rather than investing the time up front to develop and release a quality product time is then spent on the back end fixing customer issues after the sale is made. Engineers spend at least 50% of their time on customer escalations.

No opportunity for engineers to do innovative work. Too much time spent shoring up previous releases. And yet new product features are 'sold' before they are ready.

A terrible work/life balance. The expectation is that people will be available 7 days a week. Meetings are called on Sunday afternoons. This is all as a result of the constant panic mode under which management operates. Rather than being realistic about schedules, features and resources required to develop, release and support a competitive, quality product the expectation is that people will just be available at all times.

It seems that with the new CEO the focus is on increasing company valuation to position it for acquisition without really doing the right things to make a competitive and quality product and to ensure customers are happy. It's a smoke and mirrors show.

    Pros

This is the place were I've learned a lot: javascript, python, UI development, network, storage, unix, solaris. Nexenta requires to use a lot of different technologies, from different field, and has a lot of great engineers who can help to explore, good people.

    Cons

Massive growth of the component comes with some extra work.

I have been working at Nexenta Systems full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great technology, partners, and people - CEO has good vision and is building towards a strong culture, lots of energy around the brand, full of "fixable problems" that mean big success for employees; at the front of the next wave of innovation - software defined data center; work days are long, but the work has an impact, which makes it satisfying; I'm glad to be here and plan on staying; and my two cents - love the open floor plan - now I can talk to people :) it's energizing

    Cons

The culture is in transition and change is hard; the journey to enterprise class doesn't happen overnight and means a lot of process discipline that people don't always like; culture / company change = some people churn, but I think this is a necessary process; right now, everyone's getting used to the new reality; as we settle down, all that improves

    Advice to Management

Keep it up! Maybe add staff meetings back to the mix :) overall pleased

I have been working at Nexenta Systems full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    People, snacks, in building gym

    Cons

Open floor plan, directors and leaders, no communication, not enough team meetings, salary

    Advice to Management

Pay your employees what they are worth and they may stay longer, empower them to be leaders and they will lead, stop with the favorites - there are many and they are not as good as people think
