I worked at Nexstar Media Group full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The company was organized and well-run with clear brands, policies and procedures. The insurance benefits were also great,

    Cons

Nexstar purchased my TV station from another company and immediately started taking things, including our company-issued credit cards and cellphones. That made it more difficult to do our jobs. There seemed to be a big focus on how few people could do a job and how much could be cut, which made us much less competitive in the market.

"Good starting point, but favors bigger markets to smaller ones"

I have been working at Nexstar Media Group full-time for more than a year

    Pros

For someone just starting out, this is a good spot. Tons of hands-on experience, practice hitting deadlines, and if you're enjoying what you do, it's quite easy to make the jump to a bigger market.

    Cons

Can't speak to bigger markets, but due to the upward mobility of talent, smaller markets rely on fresh (read: inexperienced) talent. Mentorship is at a minimum, so it can be tough to refine and develop skills. Many stations are more run by the sales side of the building rather than news, so priorities can be lost at times. Especially for small markets, resources and personnel may be smaller than at the bigger ones, so be prepared to have more on your plate than you'd expect.
