I have been working at Nexstar Media Group full-time for less than a year

    Pros

The people at my station and I've noticed Nexstar all around are awesome. Helpful, friendly, outgoing, never take no for an answer genuinely good people. The job is fun, the hours are great as a promotions producer I work Mon-Fri 9-5 with holidays off.

    Cons

The pay is absolutely awful. They act like people in their 30s should be glad if they make 35k, so just make sure you negotiate and don't take less than you're worth. I've heard they only give 1% raises each year during reviews. Also the first year you only get one week paid vacation apparently, which is upsetting because I was promised two when I was hired and there hasn't been much discussion about it.

I have been working at Nexstar Media Group full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    - 170 something stations to choose from - Easy to stay employed if you are good and work hard - Good place to start your career out and network with others. If you want to get paid better, look elsewhere - Generally work with good people who are on your level - 2 weeks paid vacation and 2 weeks paid sick leave - Gave a bonus for the tax changes (was about half of competitors though)

    Cons

    - Poor management from the multiple stations I have been at, and corporate doesn't seem to care - Low pay, lower than competitors who keeps stealing our hard working employees - Corporate comes in and seems to care more about how many hours we are on air more than how good our newscasts look during those hours - Good luck moving up the ladder unless you want to change stations or stick around a while - If you cannot handle broadcast hours then don't bother working here - Raises are an absolute joke. I got $0.25/hr (+$40 a month) raise when working full time - Sick pay, vacation, and personal days do not roll over to the next year so you have to use it or lose it by the end of each year - Still has blackout days for ratings months even though most markets are digital and it doesn't matter anymore

I worked at Nexstar Media Group part-time

    Pros

Journalism usually has good people within its ranks, and Nexstar's stations usually have good people working for them. It is an okay stepping stone to something better.

    Cons

Horrible pay, and horrible upper management. Little to no chances of promotion within the station. Little to no appreciation for going above and beyond.

I have been working at Nexstar Media Group full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    1. Some good people to work with 2. The insurance is pretty good if you don't have a serious illness. 3. Lots of job openings.

    Cons

    1. Low starting pay and no regular raises. 2. Training of new personnel is nonexistent nor mandated by corporate. 3. Local managers are "yes men/women" or they are forced out and replaced. 4. Local and General managers barely understand their job much less how to execute it. 5. Corporate cares more about acquiring new assets rather than taking care of their current employees. 6. Out of control office politics and no leadership to stop it. (Blame game) 7. No overtime even it the situation warrants it 8. Understaffed and overworked (Literally 16 personnel total in news for a 7 day a week newscast) 9. Complaints to corporate about local management are met with no action or compromise even after multiple personnel complain about the same issues. 10. EEO complaints go ignored. 11. Corporate feels that all employees owe the company loyalty even if they are being treated like property rather than people. 12. Inability to retain quality employees.

I worked at Nexstar Media Group full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Great local stations in nice communities and markets. Most station-level employees are good people, dedicated, working hard for little pay.

    Cons

Low pay. No appreciation for employees or their contributions to the company. An employee is only a number. Nothing more.

I worked at Nexstar Media Group

    Pros

Good people in general, nice group of employees in news, production etc. Good benefits.

    Cons

The main sales managers are not ethical and demean employees. Minimal training to sales staff, abusive meetings, crazy outbursts, unfair favoritism. Unorganized. They are great for the first few weeks, so sweet and acting like it's a team environment and it is NOT.
