    Pros

    Overtime
    OK pay for shop work
    Respected in retail
    Share options
Flexibility to work on different departments
Staff are generally friendly, but as with any retail job, gossiping occurs!
Being able to see stock pre-sale!

    Cons

Power stuggles on the shop floor!
Hours are now being cut and redundancies made
The Next Sale - up at 4am for a 5am start, for shop managers, even earlier! Working on 26th and 27th Dec often mandatory. The staff contract specfies work hours to the 'needs of the business' and this is used at Christmas! There is virtually no flexibilty not to work the Next sale.

    Advice to Management

    Reduce waste
Develop potential managers on the shop floor more readily
    More promo opportunties

    Pros

Floor managers do praise a job well done and are quick to recognise talent and ability. Also the benefits are good.

    Cons

Too many floor managers at times create confusion amongst staff regarding what needs to be done. Rarely ever see store/area managers, it would be useful to get feedback from a higher level which isn't filtered through several other managers.

    Advice to Management

Give more feedback and trying to sell the Directory to distracted shoppers is a hard job and too much pressure is put on reaching targets that are often impossible to reach, creating a lot of Directory applications with false information!

    Pros

    Part-time work possible
Easy prep each day after initial stages
Interacting with young trainees on the threshold of new career

    Cons

They even tell you how much coffee you are supposed to consume.
Office facilities are lousy... no properly maintained washrooms

    Advice to Management

    Treat the trainers with respect
Be fair when it comes to promotions etc
Hire people who know the subject...especially the head of the training centre
If you want the business to continue, you need to be more professional in dealing with clients

I worked at Next Retail part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

NEXT is one of the few companies that hires 16 years old students, especially without experience, which is normally difficult to come by.

    Cons

Disorganisation on the part of staff, with expiration dates of contracts not being checked. Poor communication between staff and management. And low wages

    Advice to Management

Keep track of contracts and ensure employees actually sign them
