    Pros

Good Vacation, Good Benefits, seems like you can move around a lot in the Company if you wish. Pretty good Pay.
They promote Teamwork and will do a lot to allow employees to get to know each other even if you work in other offices. It seemed like they had good training.

    Cons

It seems if you aren't a corporate robot you won't last here. You are just a number and they don't care at all about your personal life. I had some awful things happen in my personal life in a very short time. I slept in a couple times due to extreme stress and insomnia, and they terminated me.

I can maybe understand if I was a very young entry level employee, but I was a professional for almost 10 years with no employment gaps and had glowing recommendations from old bosses during my interview process.
It taught me a lesson though, if you work for a big corporation you are just a number in the system.

    Advice to Management

Employees aren't just numbers in the computer

    Pros

    * Executives are very approachable
    * Contributions and opinions are supported and used from the lowest analyst level - great opportunity to get really good experience

    Cons

    * If you are not a white male, you are not going to be promoted
    * Management expects you to work like a dog with minimal rewards
    * Bonus structure not like that of a typical energy company - and they never reward bonuses at full percentage potential
    * Healthcare is extremely expensive ... actually more than you would pay if you were independent
    * HR department is a flat out joke. They don't believe in anonymity and nothing is a secret.

    Advice to Management

Don't be so shortsighted on advancement. There are not women in vice president roles and minimal director-level positions for a reason. Why promote a man who takes credit for the work that their women mangers and directors do?

    Pros

Pay is at market, the people are friendly, hours are flexible.

    Cons

Not a lot of visible corporate sponsorship of community events... rarely see NiSource or even Columbia Gas of Ohio listed as corporate sponsors. Easy to get pigeonholed into one area. You can find a lot of people here who have done the same thing for years. Outdated business practices and HR policies in comparison to other Fortune 500 companies have worked for. Making changes, but very slow to evolve...near retirement employees appear very resistant to change. Could use a little more diversity.

    Advice to Management

Learn to engage employees at all levels, from the star players to the worker bees. There is talent to be developed in people at all levels.

    Pros

Family-oriented, stable workplace on the distribution side. Benefits are pretty good with a reasonable 401k match. The operations and maintenance side of this business is run pretty efficiently.

    Cons

I can't help but feel like I am getting pigeon-holed into a position that really offers very little applicable skills towards any other position, anywhere. Way too many different departments to deal with, which promotes silo building.

    Advice to Management

Please break down the walls between the different departments because this really only promotes an "us vs. them" mentality that prevents teamwork.
