I worked at Niitek full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Good company to work for. No major complaints. This company looks to improve life for their employees.

    Cons

None that I could see. It is very few and far between that you actually see someone that has a negative thing to say about this company.

    Advice to Management

    Keep on with the effort.

I worked at Niitek full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The technology is first rate and saves many lives.

    Cons

It is a horrible place to work. Top management is detached and a master of deceit and bait and switch. Nepotism is wild. The company is circling the drain.

    Advice to Management

    Get rid of it.

I have been working at Niitek full-time for more than a year

    Pros

There were good benefits, great people, and interesting technologies to work on. One of the few hands-on jobs I've had the pleasure working at.

    Cons

Management was completely out of touch with the employees below them. The company recently lost a contract that was its main source of income. Completely took the upper management by surprise when this should have been a potential outcome (all the eggs in one basket situation). The company's solution to this was to lay off nearly all the experienced personnel.

    Advice to Management

Engage with the personnel below you. Understand their needs and frustrations. The biggest noticeable problem was taking responsibility.

I have been working at Niitek

    Pros

Good medical benefits. Work can be interesting.

    Cons

No work life balance. You're required to work 8-hours a day (i.e. it's not 40 hours a week, it's 8 hours a day. If you can't work 8 hours today, you need to take a block of 4 hours of vacation. Doesn't matter if you worked 12 hours the day before). Management expects you to work till midnight and show up at 9am the next morning for core hours. Company has VERY low morale.

I worked at Niitek full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The non-management employees are great to work with and, for the most part, highly competent. Pay and benefits were average to slightly above average despite HR's best efforts. They formed the better portion of the company.

    Cons

Company executives are primarily concerned with making the company look good on paper rather than running top notch and efficient firm. Middle and senior management are most concerned about keeping their superiors ignorant of the fact that most of them aren't very good at their jobs, rather than trying to actually get better. Communication between management and rank-and-file employees is almost non-existent beyond...

    Advice to Management

Buy the company back from Chemring, fire the engineering department, resign, and let a new team salvage something from the wreckage of what used to be a promising defense contractor.

    I worked at Niitek

    Pros

Niitek was a great place to work 5 years ago. There were approximately 120 employees they were saving American lives in Afghanistan.

    Cons

The new products are lacking in proper design for manufacturability. The employees that are left are walking on pin and needles with the threat of closing and moving every thing to Charlotte, NC.

    Advice to Management

New products need to be better designed and the companies Sales and Marketing need to do a better of getting work so layoffs don't need to continue.

    I worked at Niitek full-time

    Pros

Blue collar people all committed to building a good product that saves lives for our troops in Afghanistan.

    Cons

Massive layoff due to defense cuts in May 2014 have gutted the company of most all talent that built the product and provided the quality and delivery.

    Advice to Management

Diversify and bring back blue collar jobs to C'ville.
