I worked at Nintendo of America full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I was privileged to work at Nintendo for 3 years before leaving due to personal reasons (the cost of living in WA, primarily). It is an amazing company to work for and they treat their employees very well. They are an incredibly stable company, and try their best to keep you in the family once you have joined them.

    Cons

As with any publicly held company, sometimes decisions are made that no one agrees with, but must be done to please the shareholders.

I worked at Nintendo of America full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Encouraged efficiencies and thinking outside the box. In the early years had the privilege of working with founders in the industry.

    Cons

Need to concentrate more on team building and encouraging staff and to recover the community spirit it used to have.

    Advice to Management

Some of the best ideas will come from the people actually preforming the job and trusting that all have a value to contribute

I worked at Nintendo of America full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Friendly, personable, respectful culture. Headquarters office in Redmond is beautiful working environment. Well defined rules and processes. Very good healthcare benefit as well as 401k and pension plan. Just added a week to professional staff vacation for new employees.

    Cons

Conflict is rarely addressed so differing viewpoints are discouraged in meetings. Reluctance to confront underperforming employees causes some difficulties on certain teams. Salary ranges not disclosed to employees so it's difficult to know where you stand in terms of advancement.

    Advice to Management

Encourage more transparent sharing in meetings and group functions. Teach employees how to handle conflict respectfully without always having to save face.
