I have been working at Nissan Technical Centre Europe full-time

    Pros

Must try harder, a lot of work still required.

    Cons

Too many over complicated spreadsheets (which tell you nothing), too many pretty powerpoints. Staff need to get out of the building and visit the dealer networks to properly understand dealers and our customers. Too many meetings about meetings (pointless) Things are done too little too late (i.e. staff objectives, released in October !!!!, instead of April).

    Advice to Management

Too managers (some are stuck in a time vortex), relook at the model portfolio as they're "OK" cars (i.e. bland, boring, functional), kill all diesel engines, concentrate on petrol,/hybrid engines and more full electric cars.

I worked at Nissan Technical Centre Europe full-time

    Pros

The overall facilities are very good and in general there is a high level of teamwork and ownership by individuals.

    Cons

The workload can be very high and this can impact work life balance, there is a cultural change happening but still very Japanese.

    Advice to Management

Balance of workload between areas needs to be reviewed since responsibilities and workload in one area is not the same as another for the same position.

    Pros

Friday work until Lunch time Paid Overtime Friendly environment

    Cons

Not very flexible in terms of project development (everything is developed in Japan), growth opportunities seem very limited,. Budget Cuts every time Always trying to achieve the impossible mission of more work with less people Canteen is terrible Not a clear path of how the lease scheme works even though they promise it to everyone (Basically excluding all the international employees of it) Not "real" engineering...

I worked at Nissan Technical Centre Europe full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great experience Exposure to the automotive industry Travel Interesting work Great place to have a work placement I, personally had fantastic management and supervisors.

    Cons

Workload can be extremely intensive at times. Lack of innovation or risk-taking. Not "Real" engineering. Lack of team building and community feeling. Building and office environment is woeful.

    Advice to Management

Take in young engineers and take some risks. Let them push for real innovation. Renovate the building, the office and meeting areas are depressing. I had some fantastic seniors and managers, but I'm aware that isn't the case in all departments. The management clearly requires a review. There is a severe lack of community at NTCE, I never worked in an office in the 80's, but working at NTCE sometimes feels like...

I worked at Nissan Technical Centre Europe for more than 10 years

      Pros

NTCE has some great people who have been there a long time. People who are driven to get the job done. People who want to take on ambitious projects, but are rarely granted them. The building, site and facilities are pretty good, there's far worse places to be!

      Cons

There seems to be a continuous suicidal mission to do more work with less people. Recruitment freezes have been in place for years. Backfilling a leaver is almost always not granted which heightens the de-motivation of engineers/section managers who are already swamped. There seems to be no mid term plan (let alone a long term one), simply doing what they are instructed by Japan. The management team accept projects...

      Advice to Management

There really needs to be an in depth look into workload, overtime, SALARY, work/life imbalance, motivation, job satisfaction and staff turnover.

I worked at Nissan Technical Centre Europe full-time for more than 8 years

      Pros

Tranquil Setting; Lunchtime finish on Fridays; Strong commitment to employee health and safety.

      Cons

Over-crowded office space. Mediocre canteen; Much of the real R&D work is carried out in Japan. Flat organisation chart with limited opportunity for progression or job rotation.

      Advice to Management

Middle management are allowed to stagnate in the same role for years (sometimes decades): a greater emphasis on pathways and rotations would benefit the entire organisation.
