I worked at Nokia full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Loyalty to employees. Reasonable bonuses paid, even when financials not very good.

    Cons

Some short sighted management decisions hurt companies profitability, and ultimately, salaries and bonuses.

    Advice to Management

I am no longer with Nokia, but I see that the new management is moving intelligently. Keep it up.

I have been working at Nokia full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The company is good, however, that does not help if you are reporting to inexperienced and abuser manager. I think Nokia Atlanta location does not reflect the Nokia vlaues. Here is a Director replace an experienced manager with his friend to manage an entire operation, and that manger also bring his bodys... and abuses continue....

    Cons

Some people are nice, but management is very poor, abuses, discrimination and all the above

    Advice to Management

Get an other job that mach your skills

I have been working at Nokia full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Bright engineers.
Multi-national company with lots of cultural diversity.
    Benefits are very good.
    Very nice severance package.

    Cons

Too many mid-level managers taking advantage of the company--unnecessary travel and then crazy spending on meals, limos, etc.
    Reliance on external contractors.

    Advice to Management

Management has made some difficult decisions regarding the future of the company. Stick to your guns and continue to cut the fat.

I have been working at Nokia full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Nokia is a great company to work for as a technical engineer as there is a high level of technical competence across all areas of the company. The hours are flexible as needed and my colleagues are generally fantastic. The pay is generally average to above average, but other benefits such as 401k match and paid time off are exceptional. Even in the unfortunate situation where the company needs to lay people off, they are treated fairly, and the company makes the transition as painless as possible for the departing employee.

    Cons

When the company is not doing well it is reflected by doing layoffs. When the company is doing well, they tend to hire like crazy. This results in a viscous repetitive cycle of too aggressive hiring followed by layoffs followed by more hiring followed by more layoffs. This is not helpful for overall employee morale.

I have been working at Nokia full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Work-Life Balance...
    Benefits Especially the 401K Match
    Work with latest Technology
Industry Recognized Name which is a good Resume Builder
    Good Trainings

    Cons

    No Upward Lateral Movement
Middle Management has no power for any decisions
Company is losing its "innovative" culture
Massive People exiting the organization..hard to keep motivated while building blocks are falling down around you...

    Advice to Management

Stop the Re-Orgs and focus on a goal to deliver and build your talent around it to deliver a product that the customers can appreciate...the constant Re-Orgs and lack of Leadership especially in the middle management has really driven moral down in a overall Great Organization. What I have witnessed in the time that I have been employed here is literally a 180 Degree turn in what the moral was when I started.....

    Cons

    Poor growth potential....
Too much internal politics between North America and Finland...
No direct feedback mechanism built in for doing a good job, of course when you don't do things right - feedback is quick.
Flexibility to move internally within working groups is impossible, unless you are in one of the major facilities......

    Pros

Great work environment. Excellent competent and professional employees.

    Cons

corporate vision changes every 2 months and management is chasing the latest re-organization. Poor market strategy and in the midst of major restructuring, thus causing instablity in US facilities and many rounds of layoffs.

    Advice to Management

Move as fast as possible to instute new organizational changes to match new strategy. An consider changes in the carry-over Exec management.

    Pros

good benefits, flexible work schedules, understanding managers, telecommuting possible

    Cons

lots of layoffs recently leading to low office moral

    Advice to Management

Pick a strategy and stick with it. Don't restructure things every few months. The employees are hesitant to get excited when new strategy and company direction is set by upper management, because people fell that things will just change again in another few months.
