I have been working at Nokia full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Pay slightly about SV norms. Open environment for doing work. Some experienced intelligent peers. Lunch included twice a week. Stocked snack room.

    Cons

Verbally abusive management. Culture of misogyny, management by fear and intimidation.

    Advice to Management

Rotten to the top so no point in advising.

I worked at Nokia full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Benefits were ok, but reduced every year I was with company.

    Cons

Disjointed management had lost focus on customers. Zero potential for job growth or promotion even with extensive losses of senior staff. Company purchased competitors, but hemorrhaged talent. Sr. Management talked about values, but did opposite.

    Advice to Management

Break apart the company to unlock shareholder equity.

Company is full of egotistical people who what to do things their own way without regard to customer needs.

    Advice to Management

Create lasting relationship with customers on their terms not yours.

I worked at Nokia (More than a year)

    Pros

Good salary, friendly team, nice office that is close to Caltrain. Pretty flexible work environment in regards to time off, etc. Smart teammates.

    Cons

No clear direction of the company. Awful leadership. Acquisition of Withings has been a disaster that led to a year's worth of hard work being scrapped. Part of a big company, but none of the benefits of that (HR is a joke, e.g., benefits enrollment was done on a piece of paper).

    Advice to Management

Figure out what you want to do and then go do it, don't wimp out.

I worked at Nokia (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Nokia has very good PTO policy and 401(k) match (though it has been reduced recently). The work hours are flexible.

    Cons

The management doesn't seem to have a plan or vision for the future and definitely no loyalty to employees. They have hired some new grads who all left within 18 months, and continually cut valued experienced employees. Those who stay have no future or promise of career advancement.

I worked at Nokia full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Benefits were quite good, 401k matched 8%, directors were usually gone and did not bother too often. Location in downtown Sunnyvale provided lots of choices for lunch.

    Cons

Incompetent management, random hire and fire practices, peers and HR slandering about employees, unrealistic projects, hidden agendas, big egos, subjective decision making, toxic environment, company going down.

    Advice to Management

Nokia needs to get it's business together requiring tough decisions and making sure that managers and executives have strong ethics and motivation to build the company, not just personal CV.
