I have been working at Nokia full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Decent salary and benefits. Some real smart people to work with who even now are still fighting everyday to help Nokia win in the market place

    Cons

Arlington Heights campus just isn't valued by senior management. Senior management doesn't recognized talent or innovation, they are blinded by the idea of cheap outsource labor. Very poor Product Management team that can only sell what we don't have.

    Advice to Management

Retain your experienced talent, wise up to the fact that one experienced US engineer is worth way more than a dozen incompetent Foxconn engineers. Focus on operational excellence, technical talent, and meeting schedules.

I have been working at Nokia full-time

    Pros

Good 401k match (6%), reasonable bonus

    Cons

Software processes are out of date and cumbersome.
Nokia Networks is not vested in the growth or survival of the Arlington Heights, IL location (This site became part of Nokia Networks due to the acquisition of Motorola Networks).

I worked at Nokia full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Strong corporate culture values, good total compensation package

    Cons

The Operations teams were established physically in remote location from where the main business stakeholders were located. This was a mistake indeed.

I have been working at Nokia (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Pay and benefits are great and I believe the only reason many stay with the company. Facilities? This is a hard area to describe/measure with tunnel vision.

    Cons

Cons: no true career development, unless you know the right people. Do not expect to advance based off merit, dedication and hard work. Some may but appears to be a good ole boy system as is the case with many companies. Any merit increases are few and far between, negotiate well coming in including bonus payout % as well as time off.

    Advice to Management

Cycle current management to opt for a lean towards more Finish management. I suspect in the hay day of Nokia success, there must have been a stronger group in place. From my perspective, persons who have a true vested interest in the company and its success - call it National Pride, may be the better persons to sit in particular roles. Do not promote persons into roles which they can not handle. Engineers who are outstanding and head-shoulders above the rest may not cut it as a line manager. Some can, however they may be more suited as a Sr eng or Tech lead. Discuss with them first what they would like to do and provide options so that if you place them over a group, if people management is not for them, allow "a way out" so that they may return easily to the role best suited for them. Operations is a large and complex role, ensure you have the right management in place to lead in this area. Seasoned persons whom have already learned the hard lessons are better suited here. It may not be wise allow line managers to learn on the fly or "the hard way" at the detriment to your employees and the company. I would like to see this company succeed. I would like to write or revise a new review 5 stars, exceed the maximum allowed character count in the Pros section and repeat one word 20 times for the Cons section 20 word minimum - "None".

I have been working at Nokia full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good benefits, global leader in telecom, good exposure to different technology and processes, decent training available

    Cons

No future for USA employees, software quality suffers because global partners don't have good communication with all development teams and huge code churn with no controls, code architecture not designed well

    Advice to Management

Re-think your current strategy - software quality is still suffering, Seems like your focus is on just buying as many competitors as possible, that's not going to win in the end with a disjointed and dysfunctional team remaining.

I have been working at Nokia (More than 10 years)

    Pros

401k and bonus are very competitive. work flexible and you can work at home if your manager is okay.

    Cons

Need work late or over weekend to meet the deadline. There is very little salary increase, even that, Nokia delay for one year. very limited space at office. No cafe, no gym. There is no job-security with this company.

    Advice to Management

need keep R&D engineers and make them feel enjoyable at this company. There are too many managers and most of them don't really make contribution to the company business.

I have been working at Nokia full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

good 401k (6% match), easy access to Rt 53 in Arlington Heights, interesting work

    Cons

senseless elimination of experienced workers, do not believe management has employees best interest, does not try to find alternate jobs within company, HR never responds to internal opportunity questions.

    Advice to Management

You are scared of the upcoming Lucent/Alcatel merger - you are losing a lot of experience from A.H. just to keep what > 40% profit margin. A.H. has a proven track record for development - what happened to needing our experience to make Nokia better?
