I worked at Nokia (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Colleagues encourage and support each other.

    Cons

No job security. No raises for over 7 years. It is a company that has taken great risks, at the expense of its employees. It has below average employee benefits, poor management and constantly laying off employees. Low employee moral. No job advancement.

    Advice to Management

Work with your employees and put yourself in their shoes. Your management title is just a title.

I worked at Nokia full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Excellent support and open access to all local and global documentation, other project experiences, technical details, etc.
    Flexibility to work remote,
    Easy work environment.

    Cons

Average salary with relatively low year to year raises. Some extremely high number of working hours (not always, but when needed it's brutal!). Like any other big company, there are some bureaucracy, high competition for high positions. Less and less attention on line management aspects, very little investment on individuals and very little attention on people's needs, conditions and motivations.

    Advice to Management

The original successful Nokia culture with flat organization, equal opportunities and employee satisfaction is rapidly fading away. Matrix organization was a good idea to avoid domains of unfairness to employees. Make sure you care about leadership and people management capabilities among your line managers. Stick with one culture and be protective about it and enforce it with discipline to all your management layers. With so many backgrounds and cultures within the company, you don't know anymore how your assets are being taken care of. You can drive a good result only if you are capable of keeping the right resources in and motivated! Invest in your people and be loyal!!

I worked at Nokia full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good only if you are unemployed or need a US green card sponsor! Also a good training center to learn stuff about technology and also harsh politics and non-EEOC employer personality and then leave for an honorable work!

    Cons

    Harsh and discriminatory environment.
    No life balance.
Unreasonable pressure and treating people like non-human
Too much politics and micro-management by managers who mainly come from India but have not yet adopted American culture and lifestyle ( thus not caring for work-life balance of employees)
low wages and promoting wrong people ( buddies of management)
HR is not on your side and is part of the whole scam

    Advice to Management

This company need a cultural reform and restoration of original Nokia culture and values. The values that I enjoyed living through between 1994-2005 but then everything started to go downhill after that!
