I have been working at Nokia full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

"Respect" is one the Nokia values and this is truly something every employee lives by. Good work life balance. Many internal opportunities to grow.
Nokia has reinvented itself many times and hopefully the future will be no different. However the industry outlook is weak and not being in a growth market means constantly making tough decisions.

    Cons

Continuous transformation and restructuring happens in Nokia, which can be rather demotivating for high performance teams.

    Advice to Management

"Continuous transformation" cannot be a sustained competitive advantage.

I worked at Nokia full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

There is good talent and interesting people
This company has a big potential and I hope they will do fine transitioning to new businesses after selling their smartphone business to MS.

    Cons

Unfortunately there is too much politics and the transition doesn't go smoothly.
There is also a lack of vision, transparancy and communication.

    Advice to Management

Listen and see what is going on on the floor. There are too many managers and too little inspiring personalities that can bring in the top engineering talent.

I worked at Nokia (More than a year)

    Pros

Good salary, friendly team, nice office that is close to Caltrain. Pretty flexible work environment in regards to time off, etc. Smart teammates.

    Cons

No clear direction of the company. Awful leadership. Acquisition of Withings has been a disaster that led to a year's worth of hard work being scrapped. Part of a big company, but none of the benefits of that (HR is a joke, e.g., benefits enrollment was done on a piece of paper).

    Advice to Management

Figure out what you want to do and then go do it, don't wimp out.

I have been working at Nokia full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great work life balance. Nice coworkers. Everyone's ultra polite. Very pretty building. Great vacation policy. The summer time is almost all vacation time.

    Cons

Lots of travel. Very few are hard working. There's no differentiation between hard working vs slackers. Everyone gets the same bonus pay out regardless of work performance.

    Advice to Management

    Less travel and less contractors.

    Pros

Neat company to work for. They have awesome camera in their phones. They have the angry birds that they use for a lot of their games and advertising.

    Cons

My contract didn't last too long so I had to move on, wish they could have held my contract longer, or better yet converted me to full time.

    Advice to Management

Notice people that are doing a great job, have excellent work ethic and doing their best every day, hard workers.

I have been working at Nokia (More than a year)

    Pros

This review is specifically for Nokia Technologies, headquartered in Sunnyvale, CA USA and a part of Nokia Corporation.

The company enjoys many of the perks common to Silicon Valley, with decent pay and good benefits. The work life balance is reasonable. There are some very interesting technology projects under development and the company has hired some very talented people who are nice to work with.

    Cons

The company has brought in new executives who have little experience running a products business, so there is a heavy reliance on consultants to get anything done in this space. The company culture is also quite different than "old" Nokia, so be prepared for that- there is a remarkable lack of trust and transparency for such a small company. The focus seems to be on style over substance, and doing things instead of doing things right. Fact based, disciplined decision making is not really emphasized.

    Advice to Management

Your work is not done after drafting some company values into a Powerpoint. People notice when the principles are not really followed in practice.
