I have been working at Nolan Transportation Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The culture is great-- I couldn't imagine spending 40+ hours a week with a better team
Uncapped commission really allows you to make a lot of money, and after you move up to Sr Broker/VP of Sales you get fantastic base raises
    New Hire Incentives
You can move up -- promotion from within is an everyday thing, not a myth. You can get larger bonuses, or pay raises, or move into a position you've been working towards
Everyone tries to be as transparent as possible
Training is a blast and a great foundation for success

    Cons

Sometimes the logistics industry is stressful, things are out of your control

    Pros

I have been working with NTG for a little under 3 years now and I have thoroughly enjoyed my time so far. I started as an Account Manager in our Nashville office and have been able to work my way up since then. This company truly does promote from within and gives their employees the opportunity to come in and build a career. Yes, the Account Manager position is challenging, what sales job isn't? You come in and you start with zeros next to your name. You have to build a book of business and make a name for yourself. But if you embrace the grind, trust the process, utilize the management team in the office and learn everything you can about this industry, you can become very successful in this company. The logistics industry isn't for everyone, it is tough. But if you are motivated by competition, if you like working in a fast paced and team oriented environment, if you can handle rejection and power through the first few months of making cold calls...this company is worth the time and worth the effort. If you want a 9-5 job where you come in and do the bare minimum to just get by, then this job and this industry isn't for you. But, if you are hungry and motivated to build a career in sales, this company is a great opportunity. The training is fantastic and the management team is knowledgeable and hungry to grow this company into the biggest freight brokerage in the game. NTG has been my family for almost 3 years now and I wouldn't trade this experience for the world.

    Cons

Logistics is 24/7, 365. There are times you need to login and fix a problem or quote a customer or help out with something after hours.

    Advice to Management

Keep growing, keep learning, keep motivating. Can't wait to see where we go next!

    Pros

good hiring classes. fun environment with relaxed dress code. potential to make good money with the right team leader and general manager. college feel. good office locations. good experience in 3PL industry.

    Cons

mickey mouse management. recycled accounts to favorable people. handouts for women employees. some team leaders barely work and do not respect employees working under them. frequent changes that seem rushed. do not feel the need to keep good employees and instead just hire new college kids... morals and ethics to their own employees is questionable. much more that cannot be disclosed.

    Advice to Management

    stop slashing commissions

    Pros

I just need something to put here to meet the 5 word minimum.

    Cons

Read these reviews. You’ll notice that there is a very large margin between positive and negative experiences here - this is clearly tied between company favoritism (or complete niativity). Because this is a millennial-seeking company, companies like NTG rely on positive employee feedback to gain new hires and they beg current employees to post positive feedback on their social outlets (don’t fall for it). Dog-eat-dog, revolving door, low retention rates, and no work-life balance are just a few reasons not to waste your time and energy here. The best way to describe your job here is “frat party”, but being shunned if you walk in the door at 7:55am or leave at 5:05pm (you’re salaried and also expected to take carrier/customer calls after hours. I had the BAT phone overnight and would get calls anytime from 1am to 5am). The mood of your office depends on your GM and if he (there are no “she’s”) got reamed out that morning, prepare to feel the wrath. You’ll know instantly if you’re an outcast in your office (socially and by the lack of support you receive). You’ll continue to have nightmares about this place even after you’ve left.

    Advice to Management

Offer more flexibility like flex hours or a work from home policy since the entire business is technology based. Please also send management (team leaders to high level, ANYONE managing people) to some sort of semi-annual (if not more frequent) managerial training. Getting insight from other companies/consultants/complaince and ethics, etc. could possibly get you out of this hole of being referred to as a “frat party” company. I understand that millennial based logistics companies are supposed to have this reputation, but it will come back to bite you in the long run (look up the article Barstool Sports posted about Coyote Logistics. I’m surprised this wasn’t NTG). Most managers are good people who got pushed in the wrong direction and make too much money now to turn back (or have just been completely brain washed and have turned into bad people). Is the emotional turmoil, worrying about firing your friends/recruits and stress really worth the money?

    Pros

Potential to make a lot of money. Helpful management. Everyone starts at the same level, you get out what you put in.

    Cons

Ugly office (which they offset a bit with ping pong table, pop-a-shot basketball, gold clubs etc, but it’s like working in a warehouse). NTG has a self proclaimed culture of ‘work hard, play hard’ which can be good for new graduates or someone who enjoys to drink, but if you fall outside of that it may not be a great fit

    Pros

I have been working for NTG for 8 months now and can say I absolutely love it. This company shares a common goal which is success. Being a part of such a motivating, supportive, energetic, and diverse group of people is invaluable. The culture and environment that NTG offers is exceptional and has made my time here very enjoyable. While the atmosphere is unique and fun, you are surrounded by people who are driven and goal oriented and give it their all every day of the week. NTG is a team-oriented company that genuinely cares about employee's personal growth in and out of the workplace and offers growth potential and advancement within the workplace along with the upmost support. I would recommend this company to anybody and couldn't be more proud to be a part of the Nolan family!

    Cons

Nothing bad to say as of now

    Pros

Downtown office location and free parking. Casual clothes to work.

    Cons

I now work for a Fortune 500 logistics company and I can say this industry is not as "dog eat dog" and "sacrifice your life to make more sales calls" as NTG wants you to believe. I work hard every day but I'm also now using my brain and not making mindless cold calls all day with no sales strategy or plan. The company I work for now is very highly regarded in the industry which is what I recommend you look for if you're considering a job in logistics. At NTG, everyone is treated very poorly by management. Expect to be highly micro-managed, yelled at and not properly trained. The sales training consisted of a stack of phones numbers being put on your desk and you're told to call them all. I work in a sales job now and I realized at NTG we learned no real sales tactics or strategies. Goals are very short sighted and change daily. You're told to move on from sales leads that may take more than 2 weeks to close. Managers frequently yell, curse and publically scold employees. Lots of inappropriate racial and sexual slurs. People are seen as dispensable. I saw people get fired after working there for 2 months and not hitting their goals. Clearly not a place that cares about developing their employees for a long-term career. It was clear who the favorites were that got the most help and the most leads. There's a lack of integrity there as well. I saw many people forging signatures on customer credit applications so they could hit arbitrary goals. Would not work here again, recommend working there, or ever hire them. The model is to work naïve college grads to the core and then fire them and keep the accounts that person closed.

    Advice to Management

I would advise the management to attend some industry management training seminars or classes. Having an outside consultant come in could be helpful to teaching leadership and managerial skills.
