I worked at Nordstrom full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

There are good things about this job: schedule flexibility, promoting from within, easy relocation, and a good way to network and meet new people.

    Cons

Return policy ultimately robs their employees. Your hard work WILL be taken away from you as you learn that the customers at Nordstrom have started shopping there simply so they can return what they buy (returns come out of your commission). Long/odd hours, but typical retail hours. A very inconsistent job including high turnover, unprofessional management, and zero company culture. Company has sacrificed their employees for their "customer service" which ultimately has come
Full circle and resulted in unhappy employees who give poor service.

    Advice to Management

Make your employees a priority. Listen to their needs. Your employees are your glue to success. Tighten up return policy. Make work place more personable and enjoyable for your employees.

I worked at Nordstrom part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Nordstrom has a nice work environment. They offer a 20% discount on merchandise to its employees. I had some flexibility with scheduling.

    Cons

Early shifts or late shifts. I didn't really have anything in between. I was either starting at really early or starting late in the day and working through the evening.

    Pros

They are the forefront of fashion and all the latest trends but also have a higher standard of service and experience for the customer. The environment, the atmosphere, the people and the processes for everything are consistent. It is an easy fit if you love fashion and genuinely care about connecting with people and providing good service. All of these things interested me and naturally sparked my desire to be a part of this company.

    Cons

Commissioned sales is unpredictable sometimes, so it's hard to have an exact outlook of your pay. You have to be open to fluctuations, highs and lows of business and sales.

I have been working at Nordstrom part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Commission based pay, promotes within, fun work environment

    Cons

    Advice to Management

Former Employee - Retail Sales Associate in Chicago, IL

    Pros

Managers have open-door policy. You really learn to provide excellent customer service.

    Cons

Catty coworkers who tried to throw you under the bus (even for things you never did) & who went to great lengths to try to steal customers. Longer hours than usual. Discount was only 20% for regular employees (33% for managers). Fake environment. I have friends who work in retail and I feel like their companies treat them much better in terms of pay and hours.

    Advice to Management

Too high of expectations, especially for pay, not enough appreciation for employees.
