I worked at Nordstrom full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Meeting new people of very different backgrounds and personally connecting with some of them (your customers)
Commission is great, and coworkers were so fun

    Cons

    Management scheduling was pretty unprofessional
The very strict policies with internal discounts on employees sucked. No discount on alterations, can't use our own credit cards to purchase things, not get points as employees when we shop. Perks are perks - employees are important to have and sometimes should be given more appreciation

I have been working at Nordstrom full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I love the open door policy and the discounts. Management is good depending. I've had good and bad but that's with anything. The benefits are great and I think they genuinely care about employees. Pay is competitive.

    Cons

Insurance is great if you can attain it. The requirement for insurance is 32.5 hours a week... Seems easy but they like to schedule you just below the requirement. 31.5 or less. The hours are not consistent and contestant cuts are normal. It's a bit caddy as they love to hire 18 year old department managers, it can be a mess sometimes. I've been at a store where the manager was extremely unprofessional, but they don't care. The sales goals are often unattainable.

    Advice to Management

Make benefits more attainable. High hourly means nothing if you are getting 28 hours a week. Hire mature managers. Make growing with the company realistic. Everything else is wonderful.

I have been working at Nordstrom full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

You can make great pay! I love my customers!

    Cons

The managers are very inexperienced. They are not very friendly, immature, and just nasty to employees. The favoritism is unlike anything I have ever seen in my life. If they don't like you personally for whatever reason no matter how well you perform, you are gone!

Hate to say management is the worst I have ever seen in my 40+years. They make the environment very negative, everyone is always fighting and even in front of customers over sales.

    Advice to Management

I don't know where to begin. Treat your employees equally. Stop the favoritism, it makes you look extremely immature and inexperienced. Don't talk down to your employees, talk to them the same way you would want to be treated. If you want to enforce rules you should follow them as well! You are not above anyone so stop acting that way. Put yourself in our shoes for a change. I could go on for days, you get the point though.

I worked at Nordstrom full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Beautiful store, well taken care of by brand executive, low turnover, good commission structure, lots of room to move around and grow w Nordstrom.

    Cons

Super clique-y environment, experience and maturity is frowned upon, friendship with co-workers more important than performance. Department management encourages cattiness. Leaders coach as if they're reading a training manual which is insulting to tenured staff.

    I worked at Nordstrom full-time

    Pros

Pay + 3% commission + bonus if goals met
