I worked at Nordstrom full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The people I worked with, most where very helpful hard working people. The health benefits, the occasional chance to buy stuff at a lower discount, the cafe bistro and that's about it.

    Cons

The worst un ethical management from the store manager to the department manager. Management makes their own private circles of favoritism and gossip club. They don't take the time to teach let alone guide you through anything

    Advice to Management

Be fair to all employees and don't be little people do to a higher position. Stop the fake resolutions and remember what Nordstrom really used to stand for

I worked at Nordstrom part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Chance to make lots of $

    Cons

Terrible management play favorites, don't respect you or your family when personal matters arise. Throw sales people under the bus in front of customers. Their HR is a complete side show they don't do anything for the employees. They let the department managers demean and belittle the sales people when they speak up about how terrible the management is. If you work in a department that has adults only they will not tolerate children in those departments take your business elsewhere immediately. Much better options for kids clothing and shoes than here way overpriced for cheap materials.

    Advice to Management

Treat employees with respect. Also treat employees who have degrees like intelligent adults. Give training more adequately to your management staff without training those department managers have no idea how to run an effective business model. Listen and do not disrespect your employees the company is going extremely downhill.

I have been working at Nordstrom (More than a year)

    Pros

Flexible hours at this location. And the benefits are great too.

    Cons

Management keeps constantly changing, too much favoritism.

    Advice to Management

I think focusing on training and educating the staff would increase the volume for the department. Managers always leave questions unanswered and have very little experience on their roles.

I have been working at Nordstrom full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

lots of opportunities for growth as long as efforts is there. You have the ability to earn more but again you have to put in the work. Lots of support. Fun environment. Super competitive but I like that.

    Cons

Some people are reward because they sell a ton even though it's not honest selling. I see to often that new people are sent out to the sales without training. The strong survive. I guess that's how you weed out people. You have to work weekends although you can take one weekend off. To many events.

    Advice to Management

I think management is super supportful. If you have certain career goals they will let you know what it is that you have to do. They set clear expectations.
