I worked at Nordstrom Rack full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

There are few pros, except a 20% discount for employees, which I rarely used due to the poor quality of their merchandise.

    Cons

They treat their employees as if everyone is expendable. There is no consideration as to work schedules (it varies every week). There is so much pressure on opening new accounts, and it factors into reviews. It's hard to sell something that you don't believe in. Their tactics for opening new accounts are predatory. Some customers don't understand that they are opening a charge account and they are not given the terms (interest rate, e.g.). Nordstrom notes are a joke. Very few employees work 40 hours/week so that they don't qualify for benefits. It was a real eye-opener to the point that I no longer shop there.

    Advice to Management

Appreciate and recognize genuinely hard-working employees--not just those who open the most credit card accounts.

  8. "Great place for career development"

I have been working at Nordstrom Rack full-time

    Pros

    promote from within
great benefits (health care, 12 weeks paid maternity leave, 4% employer match 401K etc.)

    Cons

    lack of formal training
    results driven to a fault

    Advice to Management

While upper management communicates well to the rest of the company, it is hard to trust what is being said. Transparency is an opportunity.

I have been working at Nordstrom Rack full-time

    Pros

I enjoy working with my customers and assisting them with their fashion choices.

    Cons

Expectations are set very high. The store departments are always understaffed and there is too much work for those whom are scheduled.

    Advice to Management

Set goals that are reasonable and achievable.

I have been working at Nordstrom Rack (More than a year)

    Pros

It was fast paced work, fun customers, and they valued experience. Plus the clothing deals were incredible. Also my accessories manager was incredible. Her focus was on doing busy and doing business well. I felt valued in my job.

    Cons

The mobile ringing was difficult at times and the shifts were terrible. The algorithm they used to schedule shifts left me with shifts late at night that were short. It was incredibly rough. The emphasis on getting cards was hard as well. I understand they generate money for the company however the benefits for the cards were not all that great.

    Advice to Management

Emphasis good customer service. Corporate should really invest more time into their algorithms and models because not all stores are the same. Also go away from a profit only focus to a customer centric focus which the values of the company are based on. In the long run, it will help drive customer retention they way it had for the past 100 years before.
