    Pros

Your paycheck is based on how much you sell. The more you sell, the more you make. Great benefits. You receive your base pay if you don't meet your commission goals.

    Cons

The overall environment is very competitive. It is sometimes hard to sell when it slow which is why you have to build great relationships with customers.

    Cons

-Lots of sharks, salespeople are competitive and territorial

I worked at Nordstrom (Less than a year)

    Pros

Benefits, discounts(could be higher), friendly employees, company culture and values!

    Cons

Not every department makes money and switching departments is not easy. Ultimately the sales fall on you and your commission even if you know it's the product/ brands that are missing from the store that customers are looking for.

    Advice to Management

Ask your employees why there sales are lacking. If you know the product availability doesn't compare to other locations, look into improving it and not faulting the employee.

I worked at Nordstrom full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Good health benefits
    401 k plan
    Promote from within.

    Cons

Human Resource Management team was really unprofessional.

    Advice to Management

Great company overall had the opportunity to meet the CEO Blake Nordstrom who was very humble by the way it's unfortunate some of the managers in some of the locations don't actually execute what the company stands for and do not follow company's guidelines and policy's

    Pros

Employee discount, overall easy job, doesn't require previous experience.

    Cons

If you are working in a competitive department (handbags, cosmetics, shoes) then prepare for some petty disagreements over commission and passive aggressive coworkers. If you're a student looking for a casual summer job and don't care too much about how much you're paid, I'd recommend a slower department (accessories, teens, etc...) but if you don't care about the drama and want to get paid more I'd go with higher traffic departments.

Best part is nice friendly coworkers.

    Cons

If someone returns something you sold it's taken out of your commission.

    Advice to Management

I worked at Nordstrom part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Offers flexibility in schedule, working with people in various backgrounds, and great open door policy. It is a great opportunity to work with a team but keep your individual style.

    Cons

Politics is high depending on which department you get assigned to. I just happened to have been assigned to a department whose manager is quite good, but listened to the assistant manager who I believe looked down on people. However, other employees who worked for a different department heads are quite happy.

I worked at Nordstrom full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Every month all the girls in our department (TBD) would receive free jeans. It depends on your manager how much gratis you'll receive a year. If you work hard, you can be paid really well. During holidays and company sales, expect to get paid twice as much or even more than you usually do. There's a lot of opportunities of growth if you hustle. In a few months a few girls in my department were offered assistant manager positions and I was offered a position as a personal stylist.

    Cons

Lots of gossip between sales reps and managers. People play politics. If you don't sell much, you won't make much money. The longer you work, the more you sell…which mean you'll be getting more returns…which in turn makes it harder to keep your sales per hour high throughout the pay periods.
