I worked at Nordstrom part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Discount, commission-base pay, friendly team environment, promote from within

    Cons

Management expects a lot from you as far as sales and time commitment, the job can be extremely competitive and grueling physically, high-school vibe

    Advice to Management

Recognize your employees have a life outside of Nordstrom

    I worked at Nordstrom full-time

    Pros

I worked at two different locations and my experiences could not be any different. The first store I was at was a dream. All Visual Department was a great team who was friendly, creative, and happy to offer support.

    Cons

The second store was catty, and grumpy and they hated each other. It was a terrible environment.

I worked at Nordstrom part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The pros: the things you learn over time. The register is extremely easy and you can pick it up fast

    Cons

The cons: there was only new employee training for 2 days and it was not nearly enough to throw you onto the floor

    Advice to Management

When someone complains about their coworker, do something about it.

    Pros

    Good people to work with

    Cons

Commission is tough to hit in smaller departments, narrow job duties, not a lot of opportunity to move around internally

I worked at Nordstrom part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

You meet life long friends. A decent discount, nothing out of this world. Easy to get shifts covered or vacation time. Commission is 10% of your sales, so that can make for a great paycheck during busy pay periods.

    Cons

Management is never on the same page. It's definitely a game of favoritism, so if you don't "kiss butt" it'll be hard to promote. I've seen employees with extraordinary numbers and metrics get looked over.

    Advice to Management

Please promote employees that are bringing you business. That's the only way your company will continue to grow.

    Pros

Great coworkers, Good pay, Strong sense of community, lots of chances to move up, lots of people are in it for the long haul so they take their work seriously

    Cons

Managment can be unreasonable at times especially with giving people time off. Often you stay past the end of your shift and the managers are bad at getting you your schedule far ahead of time. Also, some of the managers get really mad when you swap shifts with coworkers.

    Advice to Management

More flexibility with schedules and just relax a bit more in general.
