I worked at Nordstrom part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Decent pay, employee discount, and professional company. Manger and co-workers were very easy going and it was always easy to get time off when needed.

    Cons

None except that the Ebar was always open way too late and the last three or four hours were terribly slow and little to no customers.

    Advice to Management

Rethink the about open and close times, it may have cost them more to stay open late since business was so slow during the evenings.

I worked at Nordstrom part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Very flexible to work with, although I was in a specific retail job, I felt a sense of freedom selling from different departments and getting to know employees in different fields.

    Cons

There was sometimes drama among Co Workers, only among the older ones. The younger ones kept their head down.

I worked at Nordstrom full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Pay, Fashion Forward, Training, Management

    Cons

Hours ( can't promise you full time due to low volume), competitive, cut throat, not a place to stay for too long

    Advice to Management

Consider having more incentives to keep full time employees

    Pros

    -Flexible schedule
    -Opportunity to earn commission
    -Client relationships

    Cons

-Lots of sharks, salespeople are competitive and territorial
-Returns are counted against you and can completely deplete your sales

I worked at Nordstrom full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Meeting new people of very different backgrounds and personally connecting with some of them (your customers)
Commission is great, and coworkers were so fun

    Cons

    Management scheduling was pretty unprofessional
The very strict policies with internal discounts on employees sucked. No discount on alterations, can't use our own credit cards to purchase things, not get points as employees when we shop. Perks are perks - employees are important to have and sometimes should be given more appreciation

I worked at Nordstrom full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Generous salary and generous raises (I received a 19% raise after 6 months). I enjoyed working with the managers very much.

    Cons

The pressure to pre-sell products for arbitrary events is relentless, and I truly believe it confuses and alienates customers.

    Advice to Management

Customers do not like getting calls from Nordstrom employees every month trying to sell them something. We need to take it down several notches.

I worked at Nordstrom full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great company, great Money depending on Store location

    Cons

Managers have the tendency to be childish

    Advice to Management

Stop playing favorites and reward people's hard work equally. This would produce more revenue. If employees are Happy than customers will flow under that energy pattern.
