    Pros

Great benefits and great discounts. Definitely a fun work environment. As long as you perform well, promotions come super quick.

    Cons

Everything is a competition. A store manager can make a huge difference in how you enjoy your location. You have to dress up each day.

I worked at Nordstrom full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Merchandise discount, if you get into the right department it could be a great place to work.

    Cons

Devil wears Prada attitude in Seattle, WA. HR is useless - they turn around and tell your boss. Never seen so many people cry at work before. It really depends what department you go to - your life can be great or totally miserable.

    Advice to Management

Management doesn't see how people are being treated. Need a new HR departmnet that cares - they just seem to cover things up to make everything seem ok.

    Pros

    Free environment
    Make your own business
    No micromanaging
    Talking with customers

    Cons

    Flooded Sales Floor
    Slow months
    Inconsistent pay

    Advice to Management

My advice would be, get managers who actually care about the culture and don't fake the funk.

    Medical Benefits
    Great training process
    Very motivational growth
Co-workers who take their jobs very serious
    Decent Pay

    Cons

    Very corporate atmosphere
Lack of "down to earth" ideals
    Arrogant and questionable Chefs
    Not very culturally diverse kitchen-wise

    Advice to Management

Even though it is not on the priority list, put more focus on your culinary leadership and on truly creating a fully functional and experienced Bistro or similar concept.

Awesome benefits, love the employee discount, open door policy with upper management, and ideas are always appreciated. Lots of growth opportunities.

    Cons

Pay is challenging, also having opportunity to take time off, for growth opportunities, you have to be flexible in pay and mobile.

    Advice to Management

    Be fair and consistent

I have been working at Nordstrom (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Had fun, it's a good job that low key consumes your life if you're in a high end department. I would find myself calling on my days off to see if anyone returned my items.

    Cons

Returned items are added to your sales quota as a negative, you have to work yourself out of the hole daily.

I worked at Nordstrom (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Flexible schedule if you are a top performer.

    Cons

If you are an hourly employee, your pay is capped. With cuts being made throughout the company, they are also consolidating multiple jobs into one role without any extra compensation for the extra daily responsibilities.

If you are a sales employee. Good luck. With the awesome return policy my colleagues who work in the sales departments refer to the company as Nordstrom rentals seeing as the company will take back ANY ITEM no matter when it was bought, worn, damaged, you name it.

Also, there are only 4 departments in the Natick store that actually make money. Salon shoes, Men's suits, and Women's designer clothes (VIA-C and Collectors). The company seems to be stocking the stores with off styles, odd colors, and limited sizes with the attitude that the customer can always get what they want online so stick the stuff that isn't selling in the store. Thus killing sales people's commissions. Retail is a dying industry and Nordstrom is leading the way. As a 2016 All-Star Award recipient for the company I must say I had a much better experience working at TJX and enjoy going to work there.

In the last 2 years, HR will send home the hourly employees once they hit 40 hours just so they don't have to pay us overtime. That's logistics, stock team, web team, building services, etc ALL had that option cut. As hourly employees during Christmas and the Anniversary sale are the ONLY times of the year the support side of the company actually MAKES money and that was taken away from us just to save Nordstrom money.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the god awful return policy so the sales employees can make a decent living.

Give the support side of the workforce some incentives to boost morale like all the incentives given to ALL sales people. We save the company money everyday would be nice to see some reciprocation.
