I worked at Nordstrom full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Great 401k plan.
Dental, vision, medical are all offered if you are full-time.

    Cons

Working off commission can be awful depending on the time of year.
Management constantly makes you push the Nordstrom card.
Sometimes customers and fellow employees can be snooty.

    Advice to Management

It's hard to sell without any merchandise. I can't tell you how many sales I've lost to other stores/online because our store wasn't stocked.

I worked at Nordstrom part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Benefits
    Salary
    Training
    Nice co-workers
People take the job pretty seriously- employees at Nordstrom see their job in retail as a big deal, so they do put in a lot more effort than the typical retail employee.
30-40 hour work week- Unlike other retail companies, Nordstrom will not cut your hours. You are guaranteed what you signed up for.

    Cons

Co-workers can be a bit materialistic and catty at times.

I have been working at Nordstrom part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

You get to learn some industry standards that can help you leverage yourself for future career growth.

    Cons

A lot of management is extremely young, making it difficult to learn from them.

I worked at Nordstrom (Less than a year)

    Pros

Managers work hard, help you when you need it, most coworkers are great, discount is cool.

    Cons

    No base pay, very competitive

    Advice to Management

Give your employees a base pay instead of net comission

    -Great environment
-Create your paychecks competitively based on commission
    -Flexible scheduling

    Cons

    No opinion of CEO

    Pros

Job gets the bills paid. Depending on what manager you have, you can learn a lot due to the on going meetings about merchandise

    Cons

Hours can burn you out and management doesn’t really seem effected by this possibility. Yes making great commission is enticing but once you burn out management will move on to the next

I worked at Nordstrom full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    -Employee discount
    -Other sales associates were great

    Cons

    -Compensation varied by department
-Pressure to sell, sell, sell and harder to sell during off-months

    Advice to Management

-Let sales associates reject DTCs, they often know what items are on the sales floor better than the managers do

I have been working at Nordstrom part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Hourly wage is really good
    - Work environment is generally encouraging
    - Commission percents are decent depending on department
    - Managers are amazing

    Cons

    - Highly competitive
    - Co-workers have a tendency to be insanely gossipy and a bit self-absorbed

    Advice to Management

Promote a better work environment for new employees. It feels super clique-y otherwise.
