    Pros

Management was supportive. Good money if making goals. Good discount.

    Cons

If you don't like who is in your department, it can make your days pretty terrible. When working FT you typically are scheduled split days off.

I worked at Nordstrom full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Good people.
    Excellent Customer Care.
    Beautiful Store.
    Nice music.
    Flexible Hours.

    Perfect for young adults.
If you are a more mature adult, going back to work, it's a good place to get your feet wet, again, and get back into the workforce.

    Cons

It's a physically demanding job. You're on your feet the entire time, serving your customer.
It's very competitive. In some, perhaps many, departments, salespeople take each other's sales. It's very difficult to control and discouraging.

    Advice to Management

The company's ethic of customer service is excellent. I believe you care about your employees, too, but I would encourage more employee support.

Before the store opens and the employees in jewelry setting up, they could really use the air conditioning being on. Same thing in regards to inventory: it's monotonous, tedious work, if at least the air contioning was on, it would really help.

I realize that controlling salespeople taking each other's sales is very challenging. But, it often felt as though the top seller's were not only given preferential treatment, they seemed to get away with almost anything. Being fair, holding a standard across the board, encouraging not only the managers, but the indivual salespeople, to support one other. I think it would not only make the company better, it would serve the indivual salespeople better. The golden rule, "treat others as you would have them treat you", ultimately serves everyone.

I worked at Nordstrom full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good products, gratis, employee discount, ability to take unpaid time off

    Cons

Very competitive due to commission based pay, promotions and transfers between departments are very political, don't start acruing PTO until after you've worked there almost a year

    Advice to Management

Being paid solely on commission leads salespeople to be overly aggressive in greeting and offering to help customers.

I worked at Nordstrom full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great company to work up the ladder with, Commision+Hourly for Cosmetics, You can seriously make a great living if you know the right Nordstrom customer.

    Cons

Not well established with the Milwaukee Market, so getting customers in the store was very hard. Non-Cosmetic employees were commission based only.

    Advice to Management

Be there for your employees. Don't promise them to coach, and help them succeed if you are gone, like that, and promoted to another store. We all want to move up and succeed but we need help from each other to grow.

I have been working at Nordstrom (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Had fun, it's a good job that low key consumes your life if you're in a high end department. I would find myself calling on my days off to see if anyone returned my items.

    Cons

Returned items are added to your sales quota as a negative, you have to work yourself out of the hole daily.
