Great company for career longevity
Jan 24, 2014 - Anonymous EmployeeRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Lots of opportunities to grow with the company and quickly, pay is excellent for retail, great benefits and 401k program.
Cons
Work life balance is not always achievable or acceptable depending on who you report too. There is pressure to relocate if you want to grow with the company.

Pros
The pay was fair and I received plenty of free products while working in cosmetics. Also management was directive and clear with goals and expectations.
Cons
The work it self was exhausting, an eight hour shift felt like a lifetime. Also a lot of pressure for sales and at times the expectation was unrealistic. I felt my work life balance was way off and the hours were the worst. Nights and weekends in addition to basically all holidays. Requesting time off was always an issue. I missed family weddings, birthdays, etc… even when I requested it off months in advance.

Cons
Takes up most of your time and its hard to have a good work life balance

Pros
-This can be a very fun job with good work life balance depending on your department. - Pay can be great with the commission structure and I actually liked making sales and seeing my hard work on the paycheck. - Coworkers can be really fun and you will most likely make friends. - you will have the option to receive good health insurance after a certain amount of months, I believe it was 4-6 months for me
Cons
- Some departments can be very competitive and snakelike when it comes to sales, but that is just the nature of the game. - If you do not make commission a certain month, expect to be earning minimum wage. Ask to be cross-trainer to other departments in need for when it is slow

Pros
Enjoyed working with my coworkers although it can get competitive because it is commission based but that’s what makes working at Nordstrom fun and engaging.
Cons
I didn’t like having to work weekends so there isn’t a work life balance

Expect a wild ride - worth it to have the name on my resume
Aug 6, 2014 - NPG - Product Developer in Seattle, WARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
I worked for Nordstrom Product Group as a Technical Designer and Product Developer. Each team I worked on had it's own culture and exciting growth within the divisions. Quarterly meetings with awards and recognition, bonus program for meeting your department goals, a lot of passionate people working hard to deliver great product. Factory base is stable and it's rather easy to place product and move it around with competitive pricing between vendors. Most of my direct managers were very reasonable and helped employees have as best work/life balance as possible.
Cons
Don't expect to travel - the seniors and management are lucky if they get 1 trip a year (coach class!!). The expectation from senior level management is set so high - most people feel that they are set up to fail regardless of how hard they work. This company will work you so so hard - anyone going in needs to know that up front. Also - DON"T expect to stay in your role for longer than 2 years. I held 4 positions in 6 years. Be prepared for reorgs and movement from team to team, even complete position changes. They put you where you are needed and you have to smile and take it to keep your job.

Great Company!
Jan 8, 2020 - Digital Merchandise Assistant in Seattle, WARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Internal promotion options Good work/life balance compared to other companies with the introduction of work from home for most teams
Cons
Work decisions often made by people within the organization not doing the specific work
- Current Employee, more than 3 years★★★★★
Pros
Great company culture, many benefits offered in all positions. A lot of different opportunities to build your career in many different directions. Ethical management and fair compensation/commision policies. The company is continuously evolving and moving into the 21st century with the retail environment, always staying on the cutting edge. If you work hard and believe in a customer-obsessed way of doing things, you will be recognized. Have absolutely loved working here.
Cons
Work/life balance is challenging to achieve until you reach a higher rank as a salesperson through tenure and performance. While you are empowered to make decisions on how you do business, vague policies can make certain interactions difficult for problem customers who are displeased with a lack of clarity and consistency.
