      Pros

Pay is not bad... Considering they are paying you for being away from home a lot. I have spent 120 hours in one week in a hotel waiting for a train to take back to home terminal, and was only home in own bed for 20 hours. Railroad retirement is the best out there hands down, considering you are paying for it out of your pay checks. The work is fairly easy considering what they ask you to do.

      Cons

Management is not the best considering they actually hide in the weeds to wait for an employee to break a rule. Too many people kiss butt to management doing favors and in return mark off for 4 day weekends consistently and do not get in trouble. They added inward facing cameras in the cab to make sure employees are doing their jobs, saying they will not use the video to discipline employees. A lot of micro managing throughout the company. Too many Chiefs and not enough Indians. Hires a bunch of new hires that have left decent jobs and then furloughs them with no intentions of keeping them after furlough. Dispatchers have no clue how long it takes to walk a train in the middle of winter with 10 inches of snow on the ground and will get on the radio asking what is taking so long.

        Pros

-Benefits -Good Pay (Takes about 4 to 5 years to hit 100% step rate) -Pension (If you can stick it out the full 30 years)

        Cons

-Schedule (You work on call unless you can hold a regular yard job which takes years of seniority to hold) -Management (Trainmasters will hide in bushes just to catch you breaking rules so they can fire you and move up the chain of command)

      Customer Service Representative CSR

I had an interview this afternoon for a customer service position in a call center. The ad was very vague to begin with and at the end of it I felt like I really didn't know anything more about the job. When I asked about the starting pay, which was not published in the ad, they looked incredulous (they were doing on-the-spot hiring today) and then asked me "What's your range?" And only responded with "I think we could meet that." And still never gave me a straight answer. Is this a red flag?

      Software Engineer

I did my initial interview with a “better established” startup and they said the interview process is 5 interviews. 3 technical then 1 interview with the CEO then another technical interview. Idk about you but that seems like a lot of interviews and they said they want to do it as fast as possible in a short time span. Is this a normal amount of interviews? Is this a red flag? For a full stack software position 4-5 years exp how much salary should be the norm in a hcol area?

Is it unprofessional to attend a Zoom interview from within your car? I am currently employed and just landed an interview for tomorrow. It is a virtual interview over Zoom. Should I try to find somewhere besides my car for the interview? I don't know that I could but wanted to get yalls thoughts on this.
