    Negative Outlook

I have been working at Nortel Networks full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I really like working at Nortel. Salaries and compensation were very competitive.

    Cons

Nortel bought too many companies that didn't add enough to the bottom line.

    Disapproves of CEO

    Pros

Some good people work there. I was allowed to telecommute, but this depends on the job and manager

    Cons

Many round of layoffs in the last 8 years. Nortel's future as a company looks bleak.

    Advice to Management

It's too late for meaningful advice.

    Disapproves of CEO

    Pros

Flexible, family atmosphere. Open-minded towards work-at-home arrangements, and progressive if not generous benefits. Creativity and "out of the box" thinking is appreciated and rewarded. Marketing forces have been re-invigorated with an active, and dynamic CMO, whereas it had ben marginalized by product groups in previous administrations. Nortel is a technology company first and last. Making a mark as a Marketeer is challenging, but often quite rewarding.

    Cons

The company's future is very much in doubt. Senior management lacks vision and strategic thinking. Projects often consist of "fire fighting" and generating presentations for the lastes analyst or investor briefing. These tend to devolve into less-than-objective spin of current events. Being here should be regarded as a short-term endeavour.

    Advice to Management

Look outside for a fresh vision. Decide what you want to be, then pursue it with abandon. (assuming we survive the next few weeks).
