I worked at Nortel Networks full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

good work, life balance. hours were reasonable for the most part. they had good 401K matching and good vacation.

    Cons

Stock was skimpy and worthless. Total compensation low. company networking products weren't competitive, which wasn't an inspiring work environment.

    Advice to Management

Need to break down the barriers between groups and have stronger messaging and leadership from management. compensation not competitive enough to keep good employees.

I worked at Nortel Networks full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great technologies, great potential, products that serve purpose.

    Cons

Management was clueless, money hungry with no vision on how to keep a 100 year old company with experience and 1 billion worth of patents in business. Sad.

    Advice to Management

Go to jail and do not collect 200$.

    Pros

Company had a large corporate structure with great benefits and many very experienced members of their team.

    Cons

They were going bankrupt and people were afraid of being laid off at any time (like i was). The company would lie to employees saying everything was great, and then let another group go.

    Advice to Management

Be honest and upfront with where the company stands.

    Pros

Nortel pays well and there is flexibility for both work schedules and work locations (teleworking is common).

    Cons

The company is bankrupt and therefore there is limited potential.

    Advice to Management

Cash is king and M&A is not a strategy that works for Nortel.
