I have been working at North American Lighting full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Growing company with a great reputation within the auto industry. Leader in lighting and moving towards autonomous driving technology. Benefits are outstanding!

    Cons

Company embraces industry changes but slow to make internal business changes.

    Advice to Management

Utilize Kaizen principles with our day to day business just like we do in manufacturing.

I worked at North American Lighting full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The pay is good, especially if you advance to a team lead position or become a tech. Good benefits too.

    Cons

The hours. They told me I would be working working Monday through Friday, with some mandatory overtime. I agreed to this, thinking occasional overtime would be okay. Hell, I would have probably volunteered for it a couple times a month for the extra money.
Then, I was immediately forced to work 6 days a week. Every single Saturday, no choice. If you don’t do the overtime, you get points and will be fired quickly. They also regularly came up to us at the end of our 8 shifts and told us that we had to work an extra 4 hours, no notice whatsoever. Good luck with that if you have any responsibilities outside of work, like kids. Again, you get points if you refuse to stay. I worked there for two years and this was the situation the whole time, making me and most of my coworkers miserable.
It’s also very hard to move from evening or night shift and onto days. They hire in new people on day shift even though there are tons of loyal employees that want the spot. They don’t care about their employees at all.they close for the week between Christmas and New Years, but make you use your accrued time off for that period. They are terrible.

    Advice to Management

Give current employees priority when it comes to openings on day shift. Do something about the overtime, it’s ridiculous. I also said they should have a part-time, weekend only crew.

I worked at North American Lighting full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good systems in place to manage work between departments.

    Cons

Too much of work performance is based on whim of supervisor and good accomplishments will not be yours. Watch your back. It's that kind of place.

    Advice to Management

Treat people with respect. Venture outside if cronyism to other skilled individuals that may offer unexpected change.

I have been working at North American Lighting full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Good benefits and competitive salary

    Cons

The Alabama plant particularly doesn't care much about its employees. And most of the supervisors or general foreman employees are very inexpierenced. The administrative staff treats you as if your replaceable by hundreds of others and will not follow standard procedure if they can benefit from another concept. The employee handbook is pointless here because of this.

    Advice to Management

Learn to respect and take care of your current employees. Especially those that have vested their time with the company and will respectfully do their job to the fullest and with pride.
