I have been working at North Carolina Department of Revenue full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

My co-workers are great. There is job security. Good health insurance and you can take a leave of absense without the risk of losing your job. Very friendly human resources department

    Cons

Poor management and horrible team leaders. Too much work for an understaffed division particularly in customer service. The other locations are not held to perform at high standard but Raleigh is.

    Advice to Management

You need to listen to your employees when there are issues and treat employees fairly. You need to actually resolve conflict and everyone needs to be on the same page.

    Pros

NCDOR has some very good benefits. The job is easy and laid back. Everyone gets along very well.

    Cons

The downside of working for NCDOR is you hardly will get a raise. You bust your bottom and go over and beyond for people and you will never be awarded for your effort.

    Pros

    -No overtime
-great benefits that come with a government position
    -every holiday off

    Cons

The moral in the office was the worst I have ever experienced. There was not one person that was happy to be there. It was almost depressing.

In my division the hours were strict with no wiggle room (I left 10 minutes early to go pick up my dog, someone saw me leave who then told my manager who told my supervisor). If you are not in a manager/supervisor position you are just another number to them.

Yes they allow you to listen to music but because you are constantly on the phones people have their music playing on a radio, which a lot of the time was too loud and never turned down.

There was not much room for advancement and pay was at a low

I have been working at North Carolina Department of Revenue full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I get along great with most of my coworkers. It is close to home.

    Cons

The collection division has to be one of the most mismanaged divisions within the department. No communication at all! One hand doesn't know what the other is doing. Everything was fine until the beginning of 2015 when new management took over. Everything has gone downhill since then! Too many goals and monthly case reviews which are pointless and such a waste of time (the same 100 cases have to be reviewed monthly!). They put us in the phone queues which takes so much of our time (but aren't reflected on our reviews) yet when we take ourselves out of the queue we get reprimanded for trying to do our job that we're evaluated on! Everyone across state micromanages the phone queues. The division is like a sinking ship and everyone is jumping!

    Advice to Management

Management unwilling to listen to their employees.

Management enjoys bragging about the increased collections for 2015 like it was a personal achievement when in actuality they have very little to do with it....more people owed individual income than ever before...the general assembly makes the laws that affect collections, not their silly policies!

I worked at North Carolina Department of Revenue full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Hours were great! Work was easy and consistent. Enjoyed some of my co workers. Was able to listen to music and do data entry and also had a t.v.

    Cons

Management was horrible. Communication was lost. Pay was low. No overtime. Lot of women that were stuck in their ways. Hard to advance in this position.

    Advice to Management

Listen to employees and be open minded.
